Andy’s denim-blue eyes narrowed. “I have no problem picking up chicks.”

“Don’t mean hookups.” She rolled her eyes. “Stage presence. We need talent. That and more if we’re going to be headliners, right?”

I breathed easier. She wasn’t crushing on Andy. She was already thinking ahead about the three of them as a band.

Rachel glanced at me. “What do you think, Addy?”

“Let’s hear you play together before we think about anything else.”

“Right.” Collin strummed the opening chords to “Slide.”

I smiled. That one was my favorite.

Rachel fingered the bass chords. Andy sang, and on the chorus, my sister echoed him. Collin swayed, his head bobbing to the beat. My sister’s hips glided back and forth. Andy showboated.

My skin prickled. The three of them were good together. They were having fun, you could feel it, and they had chemistry. After they ended the song, I told them so.

“What are your musical influences?” I asked Collin.

“I like Aerosmith.”

I did too. Who didn’t? “You play like Joe Perry.” In other words, he was a serious guitarist who played tight yet loose.

“Thanks.” His eyes sparkled as brightly as the Milky Way. “That’s a huge compliment, babe.”

“It wasn’t meant to be flattery. It’s the truth. Do you like their early stuff or the new?” I asked.

“Early.”

“Favorite song?”

“‘Sweet Emotion.’” His brow creased as he considered. “And ‘Walk this Way.’”

I nodded approvingly. “Good choices.”

“Hey, what about me?” Andy asked. “I’m the lead singer. Don’t I get the twenty questions?”

My lips curved. He had the arrogance down for his position. “Favorite band?”

“Fleetwood Mac.”

Holy shit. That was surprising. I didn’t know many guys who would pick that band.

“I thought you’d say Metallica or Zeppelin.”

“Fleetwood, hands down.” He gave me a look as if daring me to argue. “Ensemble band. Incredible harmony. Songwriting chops. Skilled instrumentalists.”

No wonder Andy wanted to learn guitar. Lindsey Buckingham was an incredibly gifted front-man guitarist.

Going over the same questions I’d put to Collin, I asked, “Favorite songs?”

“‘Never Going Back.’ ‘Go Insane.’ ‘Landslide.’”

“Lots of keyboards in their music,” I said.

“We have a Rolando.” Collin pointed to the corner. Only the legs of the keyboard were showing. The rest was under a sheet.

“Great, but can you play it?”
