I didn’t ask who he meant. I knew he wasn’t referring to my escorts.

“Leave us,” he added in that same quiet, authoritative voice. Not bothering to lift his head, he continued scanning the paperwork he held in his hand.

“Thank you.” I glanced at Arturo first, then Dimitri. I’d gone with them and left Barry downstairs, and they hadn’t done anything to harm him. At least, not yet, and I was grateful for that.

Arturo lifted his chin, but his cousin didn’t say anything. He didn’t seem talkative either.

I went to the chair in front of Martin’s desk. The one on the right was my preference as usual, closer to the exit if I needed to run.

“Close the door.” Martin lifted his head, making eye contact with his bodyguard, not me. As soon as the mechanism clicked and we were alone, he looked at me. “I’m very disappointed with you, my dear.”

Oh shit. I couldn’t negotiate or bargain if he was upset with me. “I’m sorry. There were things to be said that took longer than I expected.

“It wasn’t only your sister you spoke to.”

“No.” I shook my head.

“Is it only Collin you’ve slept with?”

I gave him a question for a question. “Do I need to give you a list of who I’ve had sex with before we continue?”

“So, Barry is your lover as well.” His gaze narrowed. “I had wondered.”

“What’s it worth for you to know?” I asked. Maybe this information was useful for bartering.

His flattened lips slowly curled. “Nicely done, my dear.” He set down his paperwork and stood. “Every time I think you’re down for the count, you get back up again.”

He leaned against the front of his desk and cocked his head, studying me a long moment.

“You haven’t slept with him. That’s obvious, but he wants you. And I wonder—”

“I’m not interested in Barry.”

In other words, I didn’t want Martin interested in Barry. Martin was possessive and would hurt anyone who he perceived came between him and his prize.

“He’s my friend, my much younger friend.” I knew he’d heard what I said on his camera. “My sister’s wrong. He’s not someone I would consider as a boyfriend or to have sex with,” I hastily added.

“As you say.” Martin didn’t look like he believed me, but I didn’t want to overly protest. The man was smart. Any more argument from me on the subject would just make him more suspicious.

“I asked you earlier here in this room what you wanted from me. I put on the dress.” I gestured to myself and tried not to react when he skimmed his gaze over me. “I sat with you. I watched the show. Everyone saw us. Is my debt paid?”

“Hardly.”

I sighed. “Is it all you want for tonight?”

Maybe he was tired. After all, it was late. Surely, even the devil got weary and needed sleep. On the other hand, was there a way I could do whatever he wanted and be done with my debt?

“It’s all I want from you while we are here.” He leaned forward. His smoky scent swirling around me, I didn’t move a muscle, though my heart pounded hard as he held my gaze and stroked my cheek with the back of his hand. “You’re so pretty, so lovely in that dress. I’d very much like to see what you look like out of it.”

My eyes widened.

“Don’t be afraid of me.” His lips curved. “I don’t want that. Not really, or at least not overly.”

Martin liked toying with me. Needing to work with that, I quickly went through what I knew. He wanted to see me naked. He wanted no one else to touch his prize. He liked when I challenged his authority. It was time to negotiate.

“I’ll strip for you here and now, tonight. But no touching, and in exchange you hire ABCR back.”

“You’ll do as I say.” He leaned back and crossed his arms over his chest. “You owe me, my dear. You do what pleases me. Not the other way around.”
