This gets me a smile, a genuine one, which does nothing for thego-go-gosignals blaring from my dick. The little shit needs to calm down. Bee’s barely been back for twenty-four hours, for fuck’s sake.

“I like it.”

She brushes the hair away from my eyes. I don’t think we’ve been this close before. I’d remember.

There’s a cluster of freckles peeking through her makeup, and if I don’t touch them in the next ten seconds, I think my dick will file for divorce.

I’m a half a second away from being completely fucking reckless when Aiden walks in.

Bee immediately jolts away from me, putting as much distance between us as possible.

It stings, and I metaphorically dig my thumb into the wound as a reminder that she doesn’t see me as anything but her brother’s best friend.

Why would she?

“Morning all,” Aiden says, claiming the last of the coffee for himself. “What time is your thing at the bank?”

Fuck. I’d almost forgotten.

“Half an hour. Gonna grab a shower here if that’s okay. It’s too far to head back to my place.”

“Go for it.”

For the last ten years, Aiden’s been the one friend I could count on.

When my head gets fogged up, Aiden helps clear the air—usually with an off-color joke. Big hugger, too, unlike me. It’s a Montgomery sibling trait. Bee’s the same, though she’s far more discerning about who she doles them out to. I haven’t made the list yet.

They look fucking good, though. She goes all in, squeezing, a back rub, the whole nine yards. I want that. I want her wrapped around me.

I’m not sure I would ever let her go, but hey, different problem for a different day.

“Uh.” Bee walks over to Aiden, who is currently the only contestant in an all-you-can-eat energy bar competition. “Are you leaving now? Because I need a lift to Morgan’s. I can be ready in five.”

“I can take you” comes out of my mouth without my permission. This isn’t a thing we do, spending time just the two of us, but opportunity rarely strikes, and I want more of her time.

“Great idea,” Aiden says, a little too happy about it.

I know that look. It’s hisI’ve got an idealook, which is only ever a good sign when it stays firmly in the business column. Because the man does have great ideas… when they have nothing to do with my personal life. Every time he’s meddled there, it’s gotten him, me, or the both of us in trouble.

Bee looks nervous. “Are you sure?”

“As long as you don’t mind tagging along to the bank. Won’t take long. Should be in and out, easy.”

Nearby, Aiden coughs. I hope he chokes on that bar.

“No, I don’t mind. It’s just…” She waves at her clothes.

Ah. The barefoot & sex-me vibe is doing a thousand different things for me, but lugging a hard-on around the bank won’t give off the impression I want to make.

“I’ve got you covered. I always keep a change of clothes in my car, if you need.”

“Maybe a shirt.”

“For the record, you look amazing.” Shit. My mouth has a mind of its own this morning.

“Oh.” She blushes. “Thanks.”

I pass Aiden on the way out, and he claps me on theshoulder, giving me a look I ignore. “Good luck,” he sings out.
