“Yeah, it’s a bit manic compared to a speaker in my kitchen.”

Parker’s smile settles my nerves. Relief sets in, knowing I won’t have to board another ride.

“What did your brother want?”

Parker rolls his eyes. “He wanted me to take William off his hands. You know, our younger brother. I said no way because my parents already roped me into babysitting him tomorrow.”

“We’re still taking a break tomorrow, right?” I ask. “I definitely need a recharge after all these activities.”

He smirks. “Yes, daredevil. You can have a whole day without seeing me.”

As the ride continues, I avoid watching at all costs. Parker, on the other hand, has no qualms with all the spinning.

It’s funny how the rides feel shorter when you’re not on them. Soon, everyone disembarks.

“That was so fun,” Yvette cheers and grabs Tabitha’s hand. “I’m so glad we could do this together. We’re friends again, right?”

Tabitha flings her off. “You’re not my friend.”

“Whoa.” Lewis gasps, leaning close to Yvette.

Parker takes half a step forward, intently watching the girls.

Yvette huffs. “You’re so difficult. Why can’t things just go back to how they were?”

“Because you never stuck up for me!” Tabitha shouts, the adrenaline from the ride surging through her body. “You were never a good friend.”

Tabitha lunges at Yvette, causing the boys to act. Kai pulls his girlfriend back, while Lewis lifts an arm in front of Yvette.

Tabitha nudges her way forward as Kai’s arms hug around her. “You never stuck up for me when Camila would say horrible things about me. How do you think I can forget that?”

“She did that to both of us,” Yvette defends. “It’s just how things were.”

My heart hammers in my chest, watching the warring girls. Were things always coming to blows? Or, has the fact I’ve been hanging out with Yvie made things worse?

“I remember the things you said when I tried to put a stop to her,” Tabitha says, eyes watering. “It wasn’t the same for us.”

“What do you want from me?” Yvette complains. “I’m trying to be better.”

Tabitha breaks free from Kai, rushing at Yvette. Fearing the worst, I let the stuffed bunny hit the ground and move forward.

“Tabby, stop.” I push my way between them. “You don’t want to do this.”

“You think you’re so good, Tabitha,” Yvette snipes. “You’re the one who’s pretending.”

As I turn, Yvette lunges for Tabitha with her hand out to strike.

“Ouch,” I hiss.

One of her perfectly manicured fingernails jabs my eye and scratches along my lash line, to the end of my brow bone. My vision instantly waters and I press my palm against the stinging area. As I turn away from the girls, I run into something and then arms wrap around me.

Recognizing his embrace instantly, I rest my head against Parker’s shoulder.

He strokes my hair while his other hand rubs my back. “Are you okay?”

I sniffle a response, scared I’ll unleash a series of sobs.

“Kylie?” Tabitha’s voice is wounded. “Oh my gosh, are you okay?”
