Parker smiles. “It’s okay. It looks like you already got your moment with Lewis.”

A happy sigh whispers out of me. “It felt like he really wanted to be close to me.”

Parker shifts his weight. “Yeah, it did.”

“Did you get jealous?” I joke.

He coughs, clutching his elbows. “What? No.”

I lower the snow cone. “I was joking.”

He forces out a laugh. “Yeah, I know.”

I give him a strange look. “Okay.”

“The scratch is looking less red.”

“Good.”

Parker picks up the bunny and dawdles away from me. “Feel like going for a walk?”

I shrug, following him as I press the snow cone against my face again.

“Yvie was eager to get Lewis away from us,” I mutter.

“From you,” Parker clarifies. “She did not like her boyfriend being that close to you. Once she saw you weren’t bleeding, she wanted out.”

“Lewis almost dropped the snow cone. Like he felt guilty.”

“Yeah, it seemed that way.”

I watch Parker’s side profile carefully. “Are you okay with talking about this?”

He double takes at me. “Yeah. This is what we’re here for. Aren’t we?”

“Yes, but...”

“I’m fine. I think I’m just shaken up by you getting hurt.”

I reach up and pinch his cheek. “Aww, Parky.”

“Oh, no.” He laughs, loosening up. “That’s not starting, is it?”

“What? It’s a cute nickname for your girlfriend to call you,” I tease.

“Sure, sure.” He slings his hands in his pockets as his smile grows. “Throw that back in my face.”

The scratch is only a mild irritation now, and I toss the snow cone in a trash can.

“You good?” Parker asks, viewing the graze.

“As good as I can be.”

Parker wanders toward the carousel. “Want to do something at an easy speed?”

I watch the leisurely, non-threatening ride and my whole body mellows. My heart bounces to a happy beat, grateful he suggested something that doesn’t spike my anxiety.

He probably just feels guilty about me getting hurt.
