Is Parker right about all our kisses being fake? Do I really have no idea what a real kiss will be like? Because, I swear, the kisses with Parker have felt as real as could be.

I’m not crazy, am I?

Lewis looks over the edge. “I don’t see Yvie and Parker down there. Do you think they got on after us?”

“There’s no screaming on the ground, so I guess so.”

Lewis looks back at me with a grin. “Having a spider on you would be scary.”

Although, I know it was a fake excuse made by Parker. I wring my hands together, stopping myself from blurting out something I’ll regret. Parker’s voice enters my head, reminding me about how to get Lewis’s attention.

An easy smile spreads across my lips. “If it were me, I would’ve dealt with it. But I’m more adventurous than Yvie.”

Lewis reclines on the seat, watching me with an impressed expression. “Is that so?”

I shrug casually, looking off to the side. “Some girls faint at the sight of danger.” I look back at him with a mischievous grin. “Then there’s me.”

Lewis sits forward with interest. “So you’re no damsel in distress? If this pod overturns, and you were clinging to the edge, you wouldn’t need me to rescue you?”

“No. I’d hold myself up until you hoisted me to safety.”

“Up to safety?” Lewis question. “I think getting to the ground would be safer.”

“But, don’t you have big strong arms to hold me?”

Lewis throws his head back, laughing.

I cup a hand over my mouth, giggling in disbelief that I’m flirting with Lewis Freaking Allen. With a large inhale of air, I lower my hands, one mistakenly landing on his thigh.

For a moment, my hand lingers as I take in the sight, but then my senses return.

I lift my hand, blushing and mumbling, “Sorry.”

“No big deal,” Lewis says, shifting on the seat.

As if the ferris wheel is mocking my chance at love, the ride slows and our pod comes to a stop at the platform. A worker opens our pod and Lewis and I exit, searching for our dates in the surrounding area.

Lewis gestures up at the ferris wheel. “They were three pods behind us.”

Above, Parker and Yvette share a pod. They’re in deep discussion and haven’t noticed us.

It doesn’t take long until they hit the ground and our group is reunited.

When they walk across the platform to meet us on the ground, Yvette has her arms crossed and a surly frown on her face.

“Oh, hi, Lewis,” she says in a disgruntled tone.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Lewis asks with concern.

Yvette stamps a foot. “What’s wrong? You freaking abandoned me! That’s what’s wrong!”

“Abandoned you?” he questions. “But I...”

Yvette cuts him off. “Who knows what would’ve happened if Parker wasn’t there for me? I can’t believe you left me.”

Parker stands behind Yvette, trying to keep his expression blank.

Yvette shudders, smoothing down her dress. “He practically had to look up my skirt to get the spider off me.”
