I shake my head. “No, I need Josie to know.”

“There’s only one day of school left. Can’t you hold out on her?”

“Parker, we tell each other everything.”

He frowns. “She’s trustworthy?”

“She’s the best.”

Parker loosens his grip. “Can’t you wait to tell her until school’s out tomorrow? That way there’s less risk of it getting on the gossip train.”

“I can’t make that promise.”

“Ugh.” He gives my hand another shake. “Just promise she’s the only one you tell.”

I smile. “That I can do.”

With our agreement in place, Parker drives me home. When he pulls into my driveway, he asks, “So, what color is your bikini?”

Instinctively, I fold my arms over my chest and gasp. “What?”

“You’ll come to the lake with us, right?” Parker says matter-of-factly.

“Hmm, yeah.” My shoulders tense. “But I don’t own a bikini. I just have a black one piece.”

Parker’s lip upturns. “Seriously?”

I shrug. “I swim laps.”

“You won’t get Lewis’s attention with a one piece,” he says bluntly. “You need to get a bikini before Saturday.”

I swipe the loose hair off my forehead and huff. “Okay, I’ll go shopping tomorrow after school.”

“Get blue,” Parker insists. “It’s Lewis’s favorite color.”

I open the car door, nodding. “Okay, thanks for the tip.”

He playfully salutes me. “No problem.”

Before I leave the car, I ask, “What should I bake for tomorrow?”

Parker taps the steering wheel, mulling over the question. “What are those small cake things with the gooey chocolate inside?”

“Do you mean the cookie dough cups?”

“Yeah, that’s it. Lewis buys three whenever they’re at the café.”

My heart flutters and I bounce out of the car. “Okay, great.”

“Ha, you finally seem happy about this plan.”

“He loves something I bake. How could I not be happy?”

Parker waves. “See you tomorrow, girlfriend.”

My mood lowers. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to hearing that.”

“Don’t look so grossed out. We have to sell it, you know.”
