Five

Never have I felt morepressure to bake.

The first time I baked for Lewis, I had never seen him before. It was just a, “welcome to the neighborhood,” gift for his family. The fact he was the most gorgeous boy I’d ever seen was an after-the-fact bonus.

Now, baking cookie dough cups specifically to gain his attention, while his eyes are on one of the most beautiful girls in school... Yeah, the pressure is on.

It’s Friday morning, and I find Parker at his locker. “Umm, Parker?”

“Hmm?” Parker turns from his locker, and his eyes light up at the sight of the bakery box in my hands. “Oh, awesome!”

I awkwardly keep the box lifted between us. “Umm, do you want to take it?”

Parker’s gaze moves left and right. “He’s not around.”

I pull the box closer to me. “Oh.”

Parker turns back to his locker, pulling out two books and then shoving his backpack inside. He hitches the books under his arm and slides a hand under the bakery box.

“But what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t hold this for you?”

I bite into my lip, unnerved by the statement.

Parker suggests we wait by his locker for Lewis to walk by. I got to school earlier than normal because my anxiety was running rampant. It’s weird to have arrived before Lewis.

We keep our eyes peeled, knowing the man of the hour will enter the hallway soon.

My knees buckle when I spy the blonde Adonis.

“Yo!” Parker calls out.

Lewis’s head tilts with curiosity, noticing me standing by Parker.

Whoa. He’s noticing me.

When Lewis reaches us, Parker lifts the bakery box lid, revealing the array of treats. “You’re into cookie dough cups, aren’t you?”
