Parker gestures at me. “Yeah, after you humiliated her.”

“Parker,” I murmur. “It’s cool.”

“It’s not cool,” Parker double downs. “Why don’t you just give us space before I say something I’ll regret.”

Hurt creases Tabitha’s face and she backs away, toward the cafeteria exit.

“What was that?” I whisper harshly. “She was only being nice.”

Parker turns to me. “You can’t be friends with her. She and Yvette are on the outs. You need to be besties with Yvette. That’s the only plan that matters.”

My stomach gurgles and I frown, hugging myself. “I don’t like this.”

He swipes a thumb across my jaw. “It’s time to toughen up.”

“Ugh.” I grimace, jerking away from him. “I don’t want to be mean to anyone.”

He clutches my hand, tugging my toward the table. “You don’t have to be. Just focus on being nice to Yvette.”

Parker yanks harder on me when I barely move behind him.

Nice to Yvette?

This would be a challenge.

“Come on, girlfriend,” he teases. “Stop acting like you don’t want to be holding my hand.”

I huff out my frustrations and move in step with him. He grins, squeezing my hand tighter.

Tyler’s the only one still sitting at the lunch table. He doesn’t acknowledge us. Instead, he’s glued to a video on his phone.

Lewis and Yvette stand off to the side, whispering and giggling to each other. Parker hurries our pace, needing to break them apart.

“So, Logan’s Point,” Parker blurts, gaining the couple’s attention. “Do you two want to come with us?”

Yvette claps gleefully. “Almost like a double date.”

“Except we’ll be meeting up with everyone else.” Parker looks at me, smiles, and then turns back to the other two. “We were thinking about asking you guys to join us on an actual double date. Like dinner at Alto Burgers?”

Lewis practically salivates. “Oh, man. I can’t get enough of their double sizzler burger.”

I’ll put that fact in my permanent memory bank.

Parker looks at Yvette. “Are you in?”

Yvette shrugs. “Not exactly the cutest date location, but sure, why not.”

“Where would you like to go instead?” Lewis asks.

Yvette’s eyes sparkle with excitement. “What about Fratelli’s?”

Lewis sniggers. “The super snob restaurant?”

“It’s not snobby,” Yvette argues playfully. “It’s elegant.”

I glance at Parker, who seems to be putting the information in his memory bank.

He subtly turns my way and winks, and then addresses the other two. “Why don’t we try a burger joint first?”
