Ahhh. Love that about him.

As Mr. Thompson meanders around the workstations, ensuring all the setups are correct, I take the time to reread the instructions.

Parker moves over to our workstation, inspecting our setup. “Not bad, Green.”

I follow his eyeline and then tighten the metal test tube holder, making sure it’s secure. “Thanks. Did you come over to get tips?”

“No. Just to get a better view.”

I look up and find him smiling at me, ignoring the setup.

Yvette nudges me. “Oh my gosh. That’s just the cutest thing I’ve ever heard.”

I smile at Parker, impressed. Okay, maybe he does know how to get Yvette’s attention.

Mr. Thompson nears the table in front of ours, and Parker retreats to his workstation.

Yvette leans closer to me. “So, that was some kiss in the cafeteria.”

I underline a number in my notebook to hide the nervous twitch in my hand. “Oh, was it?”

“Totally. Especially when you didn’t seem to want anything to do with him yesterday.”

“Oh, well, just playing hard to get. You know how it is.”

Yvette giggles. “Oh yeah, I’ve played that game before.”

The thought of playing games when it comes to love gives me the ick.

I glance over at the boys, and ask Yvette, “Is that what you’re doing with Lewis?”

“No. I kissed Lewis before you kissed Parker.” Yvette sighs, leaning her cheek against her palm. “I think it’ll be so cute if we go on a double date. The boys seem excited about it, don’t they?”

I sneak another peek at the boys’ table. Parker grins and gives me an eager wave, while Lewis seems deep in thought.

I turn back to Yvette. “Parker seems excited.”

“That’s what I like about Lewis. He doesn’t put all his cards out on the table.”

“But at least with Parker you know what he’s thinking.”

Yvette shrugs. “Where’s the fun in that?”

Dang. Is Parker going about this all wrong?

Yvette gasps and clutches my shoulders. “Oh crap, Kylie. I’m so sorry.”

“What?” My eyes bulge as I look at the experiment, horrified that something went catastrophically wrong.

“I just talked badly about your guy,” she apologizes, releasing my shoulders. “I totally didn’t mean anything bad about it. I think you two are awesome together. And me and Lewis are awesome. And together, we’ll all be awesome.”

If she uses awesome one more time my head might explode.

“Forgive me?” she squeaks.

I fake a smile. “Already forgotten.”

“Eep.” She squeals, pulling me into a tight hug. “You’re the best.”
