Oh my gosh. Are Lewis and I flirting?
Beep, beep.My phone vibrates with the notification sound, but I have zero interest in checking it. I mean, why would I? I’m in the presence of the most beautiful boy in Victoria Falls.
“Was that your phone?” Lewis asks.
I shrug. “Yeah, but I don’t need to check it.”
Lewis chuckles. “Wow. I can’t stand knowing I have an unread text.”
Oops. Does he think I’m weird now?
I pull out my phone and say, “Well, just checking it won’t hurt, I guess.”
Lewis gives me an approving smile. It’s so hard to look away from him for the sake of my stupid phone.
It’s a text from Parker.“You’re not going to be happy.”
My brow furrows as I reread his message. I reply the only response that comes to mind.“????”
“Yvie’s taking the bus.”
I suck in a ragged breath, but quickly dismiss the irrational fear.“So? She’ll be on a different route to us.”
“Apparently not.”
Ahead, the number twenty-two bus slows to a stop. Three passengers disembark, and...
Oh no.
One is Yvette.
With a beyond chipper grin and lifted on tippy toes, she waves madly at us.
Beside me, Lewis’s chest inflates. His shoulders seem to broaden and pep livens his steps.
My stomach drops and I fall into a dawdle as Lewis meets up with his girlfriend. When they hug, I’m ready to hurl on the sidewalk.
Crap.
This is why he wanted to get to the bus stop early.
For her.
Lewis greets her with a hug and it feels like my insides are disintegrating.
“Kylie?” Yvette says with surprise, pulling out of Lewis’s arms. “I thought you’d be going with Parker.”
Lewis rolls his eyes. “He’s running late again.”
“Oh, that’s so weird,” Yvette says, screwing up her face. “Why would he offer to drive me then? He wanted me to be late too?”
Lewis back stiffens. “Parker texted you?”
Yvette shrugs. “I only just replied. I don’t know when he asked. Maybe he thought I’d be late. I mean,thisdoes take a long time to perfect.”
Lewis chuckles, kissing the side of her head. “You’re already perfect.”
Okay, now I’m really gonna puke.
