“Yep. I’m getting the whadda burger.”

He smirks. “Copying Parker?”

“Heck no. He’s copying me.”

At that, Lewis laughs.

“What’s so funny?” Parker asks, slipping into the space beside me.

“Just your girlfriend,” Lewis says, smiling at me.

Oh gosh. Did it just get hot out here?

“Oh, I already knew that,” Parker says, like it’s no big deal.

I don’t care. I keep my shared gaze with Lewis, feeling every flutter and sizzle of electricity inside my chest.

Yvette combs her fingers through Lewis’s hair, remarking, “Some girls need to be funny.”

My heart short-circuits as Lewis’s eyes break contact with mine, giving Yvette his full attention.

“I dunno, it might just be me,” Yvette says in a breathy voice, “but I spend all my time laughing at my boyfriend’s jokes.”

Lewis grins. “Do I need to make you laugh more?”

She snuggles into him. “Haven’t you noticed how easily I laugh?”

My eyes roll hard. Who hasn’t heard that ear-piercing giggle?

Parker and I sit in silence, watching Yvette and Lewis attempting to make us lose our appetites with their flirting. I could thank the heavens when our meals hit the table.

“Aww, cute,” Yvette says, picking up her no frills burger. “It’s so small, I love it.”

Lewis playfully nudges her. “You’re the only person to come to Alto Burger and be glad they got a small burger.”

Yvette leans over to view Lewis’s burger. “What’s so special about yours?”

Lewis lifts the top burger bun, revealing the two layers of grilled beef patty, with layers of cheese, ketchup, pickles, and lettuce. “This is the best burger in history. It puts yours to shame.”

Yvette grins. “Whatever.”

Lewis side-eyes her. “You got no idea.”

“Okay, let me try it then.”

Lewis lifts the burger and Yvette takes a bite. My insides clamp down, because it’s both adorable and romantic. Dang it. I wanna share food with Lewis. I want to tell him why my burger is far superior to his.

“Mmm.” Yvette closes her eyes as she savors the bite. She pushes her plate away, swallowing. “Wow, I don’t even wanna try mine.”

Lewis laughs, hanging a thumb toward the counter. “Do you want me to order you another burger?”

“No, I’ll just have another bite of yours. I’ll be full after that.”

My eyes roll hard.Give me a break. Choosing to tune them out, I lift my burger to take a bite. Parker does the same, obviously struggling with listening to them as well.

I keep biting, hoping that the more burger I shovel into my mouth, the less I’ll be able to hear. With plump cheeks, I drop the last half of my burger on my plate. Every chew is an effort, but it distracts me from the nauseating sight across the table.

Yvette cackles. “Eww, Kylie. Do you even know how to eat around other people?”
