Tyler doesn’t catch on. “No, why would he?”

“Because I thought Kai and the others were going to be here this morning.”

“Oh, they’re definitely going out for breakfast,” Tyler says. “Kai told me I’d see him later.”

“Just later?” Parker asks. “Or here?”

Tyler shrugs, and moves away to chat with Jamie.

“Oh man,” I mumble, trudging toward the counter.

“What?”

“Jamie texted Kai not to bring the girls here. She was going on about how they should stick to Village Coffee at the other end of Main Street.” I purse my lips and brace myself against the glass display cabinet. “What if the four of them are hanging out over there?”

Parker’s eyebrows raise. “We could be in the wrong place?”

I hug my middle. “I didn’t think about them being someplace else. I just didn’t want them here.”

“But you texted me. You knew I’d be here to fix it.”

“You being here wouldn’t stop her shrill laugh.”

Parker sniggers. “I like her laugh.”

I smirk. “You would.”

Parker peers into the glass display. “What did you bake today?”

Unintentionally, I yawn. “I was too tired, so I just made almond flour cookies, fudge brownies, and cinnamon rolls.”

Parker smirks. “I love how you act like that’s not a lot.”

“It’s simple stuff,” I clarify. “I needed to make a few things because Sunday is such a busy day, but I’d usually put more effort in.”

“Tired from your big night out?” Parker jokes.

“Yes,” I say flatly. “And from staying up all night, thinking about today.”

“Today?”

“The thought of Yvie being here was making me sick.”

“You didn’t have any faith in me?”

I sigh. “Actually, I’m so glad you got here before them. I feel less likely to faceplant.”

Parker laughs, patting my back. “Please don’t fall. Your parents are already waiting for me to do something that gets you hurt.”

“You care about what they think?”

“Of course,” he beams. “Your parents are cool. They sing and dance.”

I laugh. “Some people would say that’s what makes them lame.”

“I don’t think Lewis would.”

I nod. “He doesn’t seem put off whenever our parents chat. But that’s usually by our fence where there’s no music to encourage them.”
