“I think I’m gonna stay up for a while and watch some TV. You know, watch a Disney movie and get the look of Edith having sex out of my head.”

“Right,” he grinned. “Well, see you in the morning.”

I waved goodbye to him, but my eyes never left him as he walked upstairs.

“If a meteor struck the earth right now and took out everyone in America, it would be less depressing than watching the two of you fawn over each other,” Lee muttered.

She headed into the kitchen and set her bowl down before heading upstairs. Meanwhile, I shifted in the chair, trying to get comfortable. It was going to be a long night.

An entire fuckingweek had passed without seeing Laura. I missed her like the flowers missed the rain. Yeah, I had resorted to making up cheesy lines like that to describe how I felt about her absence. Only to myself, of course. I’d never let any of the guys hear me talk about her like that.

The first thing I did was burn the sheets Brock used that horrible night. Then I got rid of the mattress and bought a new one—a king-sized one with all the bells and whistles. And since the couch was still parked in the front door, I had to manipulate it through the back door, through the kitchen, and around the corner to the stairs, which was loads of fun by myself. But the mattress was everything I’d ever wanted, and the one thing I splurged on since moving into this house. Deep down, I got it for Laura, knowing she had a hard time getting comfortable when she first got into bed. Not that she would ever be spending another night with me. She made that pretty clear when she moved out a week ago.

Still, a man could hold out hope for something better.

“I can’t believe we have to be here,” Rae muttered as she swiped a bottle of beer and popped the top. “Why the hell did Bowie getmarried again? Didn’t he think of this after the last time he ran off to Vegas?”

“Apparently not.”

“You should have done something about it,” she snapped. “Is this woman your girlfriend’s mom?”

“She’s not my girlfriend,” I sighed. “She’s not even living with me anymore. She moved intoAndrew’shouse.”

At my snarky tone, Rae turned to me with a grin. “I can’t believe you lost a girl to a man who doesn’t even live here year-round.”

I smirked sarcastically at her. “That’s right, rub that salt in the wound. Just dig your thumb in and press really hard.”

“Hey, I’m just saying, you should have tried harder.”

“I did try hard, but apparently, it wasn’t enough. I even brought two women home to make her jealous. She gave me a thumbs up. Can you believe that shit?”

Rae stared at me for a moment, then shook her head. “Men are so stupid,” she muttered as she walked off.

Brock strolled up beside me, slinging his arm around my neck. “So, you think she’ll show?”

“She has to.”

I had been preparing for this since the day I got the invite to the open house. It wasn’t quite renovated, but well enough for the happy couple to move in.

“Well, it would make sense that she would be here.”

“That’s what I’m counting on. Hey, has Lee said anything to you?”

He huffed out a laugh. “The only thing she says isroll over. And believe me, I roll over.”

His relationship with her was so twisted. When he told her he fell on his sword for me, she just shrugged and moved on. She didn’t even care.

“So, any opening lines for me? I’m struggling betweenHeyandHow’s it going?”

He shrugged. “Well, ‘hey’ leaves you open for conversation of any kind. How’s it going is more specific and could lead you into unwanted territory.”

“Such as?”

“She might tell you about a guy she’s dating. Or she might tell you about her period. I don’t know. ‘Hey’ is so much more flexible.”
