I swiped the sweat from my brow and glared at him. “She gave me the sign. Youknowthat!”

“Right, but you didn’t make a move. You could have at least tried. Then you would have known. Now someone else will know.”

I swung again, hating his logic. “Thanks. That makes me feel so much better.”

A grin tugged at his lips. “So, you saw him?”

“Yeah,” I grumbled. “All six foot ten of him.”

“Seriously?”

“No, but he might as well have been. He’s a fucking firefighter.”

Brock winced, shaking his head. “Man, you just can’t catch a break.”

“I know! What the fuck is it with these men that come in with their average jobs and steal the woman that’s supposed to be with me?”

“They have calendars,” he pointed out.

“I’m aware.”

“And they usually have them holding puppies.”

“Like I don’t have enough to compete with,” I scoffed. “What woman is going to resist a firefighter holding a puppy?”

“And they have those suspenders holding up their turnout gear,” he sighed. “Why the fuck is that such a turn-on?”

“I don’t know, but I’d like to snap those suspenders until his nipples are red and swollen.”

“Fucking firefighters,” he sighed. “I bet he looks good carrying an axe too.”

“I could carry an axe,” I grumbled. “No one would look at me that way.”

He frowned slightly. “Haven’t we already had this conversation about mechanics?”

“Does it fucking matter?” I snapped, slamming my fist into the bag again. “What does he have that I don’t?”

“Well, he did rescue her from being hit by a car.”

I stopped and held out my hands wide. “I rescued her from a house that fell on top of her! Why doesn’t that rank?”

“Because you’re not a fireman,” he answered.

“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath, repositioning myself for another round on the bag. “If she goes home with him…”

I didn’t even want to think about it. The thought made my skin crawl. I literally wanted to rip my flesh from my body just so I could feel something other than this insane jealousy that was causing me to lose focus on everything else in my life.

“If she goes home with him, are you still gonna let her sleep in your bed?”

I stopped and stared at him. I hadn’t even considered the repercussions of how this would change that aspect of our relationship. “She won’t want to,” I realized. “She’ll be sleeping in his bed and rubbing her foot up and down his leg at night.” I walked over to the ring and sat down on the edge. “I’m never gonna be able to wash my sheets again. Her scent will disappear and then what will I have?”

He shrugged, sitting beside me. “You could always sneak into her house and smell her pillow.”

“If she even stays at her house. What if she stays at his?” Then something dawned on me. “What if he stays inherbed?”

“I think you have to worry more about what they’ll be doing in the bed. Cuz I can guarantee they won’t be doing this shit you do with her.”

“Hey, we have good shit,” I snapped, feeling very defensive. “Maybe it’s not sexual and…it’s still life-altering.”
