Fox clapped his hands together, rubbing them with a sadistic grin on his face. “It’s not murder, but it sure will be fun!”

I widened my eyes in disbelief as he ran out of the room. When Idecided to storm my way into the IT room and find out everything I could about Andrew, I hadn’t quite considered that other people might take my urgency of the situation in a different way. But at least I had some fun.

“So,” Rae leaned back in her chair, shooting me a clever smirk. “How long are you going to let this go on?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Andrew Campobello. Thirty years old and best friend of one Laura Woods. AKA, your new girlfriend.” She pushed out of her chair and stalked around me, her eyes never leaving me. He’s a threat to your happiness and threats have to be eliminated.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not eliminating anyone. I just want to be sure that?—”

“That he’s not moving in on your territory?” she grinned.

“That he’s not planning to move home and ruin everything,” I grumbled. “And it wouldn’t hurt if his dad was actually an evil spy.”

“Uh-huh. You know Fox and Kavanaugh are gonna spend days on this. They’re going to come up with wild theories and go to Cash with baseless accusations. So, again I ask…how long are you going to let this go on?”

Man, she really had me pegged. “Maybe a few more days.”

LAURA

I groanedas I flopped down on Andrew’s sofa. “Ugh, it feels so good to be in my own clothes!”

He sat down beside me, pulling my feet onto his lap. “What’s wrong? You didn’t like wearing men’s clothes?”

I did. A little too much. I just didn’t like how his scent affected me. “Considering that I’m wearing underwear again, yes, I’m very happy.”

“So, what happened with the undies? Did he rip them off during the night?”

I sent him a censorious glare. “You know, not everything is about sex.”

“It should be. But seriously, what guy wouldn’t tear your clothes off you in the middle of the night?”

“You never have,” I pointed out.

“Right, but you’re like my sister. That would be weird. So, what’s with this guy, anyway?”

“What do you mean?”

His thumb dug into the bottom of my foot, erasing the ache that had been there for days. I moaned, not at all ashamed of the way I reacted to Andrew touching me. He had always been very affectionatewith me and didn’t mind doing what a boyfriend would do—taking care of my needs. Just not the sexual ones.

“Are you really telling me that you spent the whole night with this guy and he didn’t make a move?”

“Not only did he not make a move, he put up a barrier between us.”

“Huh. Does he have a girlfriend?”

“Not that I know of. I thought maybe he liked me, but then he made it perfectly clear that he wasn’t interested.”

“That sucks. Not that I think he’s the guy for you. Did you see him at the house?”

“Yeah,” I said, not sure where he was going with this.

“Come on. It’s obvious that he ran there to check me out.”

I still didn’t—“No! He’s gay? How did I not pick up on that?”
