She turned and grinned at me. “How do you think you were born? Your mother had to have sex at some point in her life. And trust me. She told me all about it. Your mother had a bigger sexual appetite than I did.”

I shuddered in disgust as she turned away and swung her ass from side to side as she stalked her prey. The poor man in her sights wouldn’t even see her coming. And she didn’t let up easily. When she went after a man, she used all the weapons in her vault.

“Poor Bowie.”

I jumped at the sound of a woman’s voice behind me, not expecting anyone to be there. “Jesus, you scared the crap out of me.”

“Sorry. I’m Rae.”

“Laura. That’s my house.” I pointed to the mess in front of me, grimacing at the state of it.

“And who’s the woman?”

“That would be my surrogate mother. She was my mother’s best friend and when my mother died, she took me in. She’s…a lot to handle.”

“Oh, don’t worry about Bowie. He can handle himself.” She cocked her head to the side. “And sometimes he can’t.”

“What does that mean?”

“Oh, nothing,” she waved me off. “It’s just…the last time he was tangled up with a woman, they ended up in Vegas.”

My eyes widened in horror. “Oh no.”

“Why? Do you think your mother would get caught up in that?”

“Actually, I’m worried it’s the other way around. She’s on the prowl for husband number five.”

“Five, huh? Is she after the money?”

“No, she’s got plenty of that. She’s just looking for fun.”

“Oh, then that’s fine.”

“Fine? Isn’t he your friend?”

“Yes, but he still lives with my husband and me. This might be just the kick in the pants he needs.”

“I don’t know. Edith might eat him alive.”

“Trust me, he can handle that,” she grinned. “So, is anyone helping you out?”

“Yes, my friend Andrew is inside with Dash.”

Her lips twitched at the name. “Dash, huh?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Oh, nothing. You said your friend’s name is Andrew?”

“Yeah, why?”

She shook her head. “Does he by any chance have a father who works for the IRS?”

“How did you know?”

“So, they’re inside,” she said, walking toward the house, ignoring my question.

“Yes, I’ve been relegated to the outside because it’s not safe for me to be inside,” I said in exasperation.
