“I know that! The point is, I’m losing my mind. It’s not fair that you’re having sex every night and I’m laying in bed with a man who I’m crazy about, but he won’t even touch me! You don’t even like Brock like that!”

She shrugged. “He’s nice, but I don’t want to train someone new.”

I could kill her right now. I could actually reach across the seat and strangle her for being so nonchalant about the fact that she’s getting sex, but could go for someone else. I refused to talk to her for the rest of the drive, pouting like a kid that didn’t get his favorite candy until we finally pulled into the parking lot of the adult store. I didn’t even wait for her as I rushed to the entrance, jerking on the door handle.

But it was locked.

I stared at the door frantically, feeling my insides slowly dying inside. This couldn’t be happening. I started banging on the door, screaming at the top of my lungs until finally a woman came to the front, looking at me through the glass with a wariness I’d never seen directed at me before.

I did my best to calm myself down, but the shaking in my hands had yet to subside. I looked like someone addicted to drugs, just waiting for my next fix.

“Ma’am,” I said in a quiet voice. “Please, I am in desperate need of your help. My vibrator—Master Luke—he died this morning.”

“We open at eleven.”

She started to turn and I threw myself against the door, calling out for her in a sickening cry that sounded like a dying cat. “Please! I sleep next to an insanely beautiful man every night. But he doesn’t like me like that. And every morning I wake up with this burning need in my gut that grows and heats my blood until I feel the rush of overwhelming, spine-tingling nirvana that can only be achieved by an amazing orgasm. I’ve been friend-zoned. Do you have any idea what that’s doing to me? And now I have nothing,” I cried, my eyes welling with tears as I slipped to the pavement, pulling my knees to my chest. “I can’t make it through the day like this. I need?—”

The lock snicked open and I jerked my gaze up to the sympathetic woman standing inside. Pushing to my feet, I nearly hugged the woman as I rushed inside. But that probably would have been pushing it considering that I had been playing with myself just an hour earlier.

“I’ll be quick,” I said, rushing past her. There were so many options and there was no time to decide which would be best. I grabbed five of them, making sure I had the appropriate batteries or charging cables for them. I didn’t even see how much they cost. As I ran to the counter, I pulled my credit card from my purse, prepared for this to cost me my first born child.

As she rang them up and gave me the total, I nearly choked. But it was nothing compared to the absolute horror I stared at when I finally looked up at her and saw my own reflection in the mirror behind the counter.

A woman I barely recognized stared back at me with hair puffed out like a girl from the eighties, only without the style. Makeup smeared down my face from crying so hard when I couldn’t achieve an orgasm. I must have forgotten to wash my face last night. But the worst of it was the flimsy pajama set I wore that didn’t even come close to hiding my nipples that were poking through the fabric, in desperate need of a man’s touch.

With a shaky hand, I covered my gaping mouth. “Oh. My. God.”

The woman bagged up the products and slid them across the counter, returning my card. “I hope this helps.”

After baring myself—quiteliterally—to everyone at OPS, I helped Thumper’s team prepare for the job. To say I was gleeful was an understatement. But who wouldn’t be in my position? I couldn’t take another night of laying next to Laura and not touching her. With any luck, I’d go on this mission, clear my head, and come back with a renewed sense of self control.

It was highly unlikely.

But anything was worth a shot at this point. My wrist had carpal tunnel from the constant jacking off whenever I could find a private location to ease the growing need inside. I wasn’t ashamed. Hell, Laura was every man’s fantasy. She was sexy, smart, funny, and most of all, she looked at me with these eyes that could melt the somewhat frozen heart inside my chest.

I’d never been a man that needed a woman long term. I loved to love women, but I didn’t want them to stick around. I wasn’t a player or jaded. I just hadn’t found a woman that actually set my heart spinning in a chaotic motion that turned my whole world upside down. Until now.

Which was why I had no choice but to leave and hope I could reset my brain. If that didn’t work, I could always try to be hypnotized.Since I still didn’t have my truck back, I walked to my house, reciting the line I made up about leaving on a job.

It was ridiculous. I didn’t need to make up an excuse or a reason for my departure. This was my job. But since I orchestrated the whole thing, I was afraid I’d blurt out that I was desperately in love with her and needed to clear my head. That already happened to her once this month. I was pretty sure a second time was cruel and unusual punishment.

“I’m going on a job for work. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone. The bed is all yours.” I nodded to myself. “That sounds perfectly normal and reasonable.”

I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. I was ready for this. But the second I shut the door, I heard the most…awful cry of my life. And it was coming from upstairs. I took off, running up the stairs two at a time as I called out for Laura.

“Laura! Answer me!” I shouted. I ran down the hall and flung the door open, only to find her in bed under the covers, panting like she’d run a marathon. With wide eyes, I looked her over, sure I would find blood dripping from the bed.

She turned to me, sweat covering her face as she shifted on the bed. “Dash! What are you doing home?”

“I have a mission. What happened? I heard screaming or something. Is everything okay?”

Her gaze dropped to the bed and what I thought was panic flitted across her face. “Uh…yes! I had a…cramp in my leg. Terrible, earth-shattering…cramp.”

I stepped forward to help her, but she flung her hand out, stopping me in my tracks. “Don’t come any closer!”
