"That's awesome."

"It is." He set his glass on the table. "If you would have told me two years ago that Maya would marry someone from Hickory Hills and then move up there, I would have bet a million dollars that was incorrect."

"It's so weird. Life is bizarre how it brings people into and out of your life."

He swallowed. "That's true."

"What's the worst part of your job?" She stared into his eyes. He felt like he fell into a pool of blue as he stared back at her. "Getting shot at tops the list."

She swallowed. He reached across the table and held her hand. "If we're going to date, you need to know this. My job can be dangerous. There will be times I have to be away for a while."

"Yes. Lara has said as much."

"And, you'll have Lara to talk to when that happens."

"Yeah."

He watched her swallow again. "It feels weird hearing it though."

He squeezed her hand. "I know. I've heard Kenna, Lara, and Everleigh say the same thing. For me, I grew up with it. My parents were gone. My Uncle Josh too. We just grew up knowing it was that way in life. So, if I ever make you feel that it's stupid to feel bad, please remind me you didn't grow up with it. And then go to those women and talk to them. Addy and Maya will likely not be of a lot of help at that time, so I've left them off the list."

He grinned and she chuckled. "I get that. And thank you."

All he wanted to do right then was hold her in his arms. His voice was gravelly when he asked, "Are you ready?"

"Yes." He picked up the bill, since the waitress hadn't come back for it. He stepped around the table to pull out Shianne's chair, then he placed his hand at the small of her back and walked side by side with her to the reception desk. He was proud to walk with her and he saw the looks of the other patrons as they passed by.

He laid the bill wallet on the reception desk and waited as Anne rang it up. He left a hefty tip, signed the receipt, and pocketed his credit card. When he turned toward Shianne, he placed his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to his body. She wrapped her arm around his waist and his heart soared. He loved this feeling. He had to fight being mad at himself for all the wasted time.

Shianne stared out the windshield at Glen Hollow below. The lights did seem like they twinkled and with the added Christmas lights, it was so pretty. She giggled, "I'd take a picture of this view, but I just know the picture won't do it justice."

Myles turned his head to look at her. "It won't. But I think as pretty as the town looks from up here, my view is the better of the two."

Her tummy flipped around and did somersaults at his praise. The darkness of the vehicle made his dark eyes impossibly dark. It was hard to see anything in them. But the moonlight offered just enough light through the trees overhead for her to make out his fantastic lips. Her eyes dropped to them and once again, he seemed to know she needed to kiss him.

His lips touched hers softly. Soft pecks over and over. Then he moved his lips across her cheek and to her ear. He kissed lightly under her ear, then moved lower, to her neck. A shiver raced up her body. Goose bumps formed on her arms and a riot of other emotions raced through her body landing in places that made her brain stop working.

She felt her breaths come in pants and wondered once more what it was about Myles that made her weak.

A sharp knock on the window startled her and she shrieked. All the horror movies from the past flooded her brain and fear took its place in her body.

Myles whispered, "Fuck." Then turned and rolled his window down.

"Hi. I thought you came up here to look at the view?"

It took her brain nearly a full minute to realize it was Maya outside. Shianne peered around Myles and saw Maya with the biggest smile she'd ever seen on her. Jasiah stood just behind Maya, a grin on his face as well.

"We are." Myles turned back to her. "Shianne, you remember Maya. Have you met Jasiah?"

She swallowed to moisten her throat. "Ah, yes. Hi, Maya. And, no I haven't met Jasiah. It's nice to meet you."

His voice was deep and tinged with laughter when he responded. "It's nice to meet you too, Shianne."

Maya tilted her head to look inside the truck. The smile on her face sent off warning signs in Shianne's brain. You could just tell she was going to give them shit.

"So, anyway, Myles," Maya continued. "If you want to see the view of Glen Hollow, you have to look out your windshield. I don't think you can see it with your head tucked under Shianne's."
