Jax sat next to her, “I’m next.” Her smile was gorgeous, but her eyes were full of mischief. She was likely a handful in her day.

“That’s a great idea. Waiting till last makes me feel like I’m rushing at the end.”

Midge smiled but said little.

Shianne’s hair was finished, and she stood as her mom neared to hurry her along. “We’ve got to get you in your dress. The photographer is here to take photos.”

“Okay.” She stepped into an adjoining room with her mom. The door opened as soon as it closed, and Jax appeared. She had a gorgeous smile on her face and her hair hung free. Of course, she was a beautiful woman, with her Hispanic coloring and her dark shiny eyes. It’s where Myles and Maya got their features.

“I’d like to help also. I can get my hair done next.”

“Of course.” Shianne smiled at her genuinely.

“When I got married to Dodge, my mother, Pilar, had a fit. She fussed and fussed about little things. She never liked that I was more comfortable in tactical pants and boots than dresses and heels. I’m sorry Shianne, I know that’s your livelihood, but it’s not me. Anyway, she made the morning stressful for me.”

“I’m sorry. I’m also sorry she couldn’t be here today.”

“She’s sorry too. Her health is poor, and she just couldn’t make the trip. But I’ll send her the video and plenty of pictures and she’ll be so proud of you for wearing a dress and heels.”

Shianne giggled. “You didn’t wear a big dress and heels?”

Jax laughed. “Well, I wore a pink dress. It was big and puffy. And it perfectly hid my military boots. She was so mad at me.”

Shianne laughed. “Spunk. I like it.”

“Anyway, today is about you and Myles and I love the vibe you have going here. So, if I promise not to fuss about your heels, will you allow me to be part of your dressing and getting prepared?”

“Absolutely.”

Shianne’s mom smiled brightly and hugged Jax. “I’m so happy you’ll be part of my daughter’s life.”

Jax smiled. “I’m happy too.”

Her mom pulled the dress from its hanging position on the wall, and she undressed down to her lingerie. She quickly pulled on a slip, and Jax and her mom held her dress open for her to step into.

They gently pulled it up, tucking her slip inside as they went, until it was in place, and they could zip it up.

She turned to the mirror on the wall and smiled. “It looked even better than the first time she wore it, just a few weeks ago.”

Her mom then held out a beautifully wrapped box to her. “Jax and I wanted you to wear this.”

Her brows furrowed slightly as she took the box and unwrapped it. Inside was a gorgeous tiara. It had gold filigree on it to match her dress.

“Oh, it’s simply gorgeous.”

Jax clapped her hands, and her mom lifted the tiara from its stand and placed it on her head. Shianne’s eyes watered as she stared at herself in the mirror. She felt like a princess.

Hugging both of her moms, she took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Whew.” She fanned herself. “Are we ready for pictures?”

Her mom smiled and nodded. When she entered the first room once again, the women stopped chatting and stared at her. Maya started clapping and the rest followed.

She beamed at their praise, and she couldn’t wait for Myles to see her. She couldn’t wait to see him. It had been a long morning already and she just wanted to be his wife.

Pictures were taken, everyone dressed, and the babies were fed. There were now three of them in the room. Richard, of course. Spencer and Kenna’s little girl, Presley was being held by Lara. Henry and Everleigh’s little guy, Leland, was being held by his grandmother, Roxanne. Barrett was running around making all the women laugh.

Shianne walked to Lara and smiled down at Presley. “She’s adorable.”

“She sure is. I hope my next one is a girl.”
