And when I let go, the last vestiges of my walls crumble, and he joins me. But instead of crashing, I fall on a crescendo, followed by a soft wave washing me to shore while he cradles me in his arms. His kisses turn soft and sweet, an ode to everything we just shared and I realize there’s no turning back now. Whatever doubts I might’ve had about us vanish, and all that’s left behind is the complete and utter certainty his arms are exactly where I’m meant to be.

CHAPTER 30

BRYNN

Ilie enveloped inJace’s arms, my body languid, limbs sore, and lips swollen. I’m tracing little circles on his chest when my stomach rumbles in the silence, and he laughs. “I take it you’re hungry?”

“Very.” I yawn, stretching my arms overhead before I push myself up into a seated position, holding the sheet over my chest, suddenly feeling shy.

Jace’s gaze drifts to the cotton, and he slowly slides it down. “Don’t hide from me, Cupcake,” he whispers as he leans into me and skates a soft kiss across my lips.

“What time is it?” I ask against his mouth.

“Time for me to take you again.”

By the time Jace and I tumble out of bed, it’s after two o’clock.

I laugh as I watch him pull on his clothes, then reach a hand out to me. “Something funny?”

I shake my head. “Just thinking about how unlikely of a couple we are.”

Did I just call us a couple?

I wait to gauge his reaction, but he just smirks, lifting a hand to touch the heat rising to my cheeks. “Not so unlikely.” He pecks me on the mouth. “But I do like the label, Cupcake.” When he leans back, he winks and turns for the door. “I’ll be in the kitchen.”

I exhale a shaky breath once he’s gone, then close my eyes and flop back in the bed, a giant smile spreading over my face.

Pure bliss. That’s what being with Jace feels like.

After a few minutes of replaying the past few hours with perfect precision in my mind, I change and run a brush through my hair before I pad my way to the kitchen in my bare feet.

Jace stands at the stove in nothing but the pair of athletic shorts I removed earlier, and I take a second to praise the Griffins’ athletic program while simultaneously marveling at the fact this man is mine.

“I hope omelets are okay.” He glances up at me and pours the beaten egg mixture into the skillet where it sizzles.

Andhe’s cooking for me.

“Better stop looking at me, Cupcake, or you won’t get to eat.”

I bite my lip to hide my smile and idly wonder if dying from happiness is actually a thing.

I make my way to one of the stools at the counter and take a seat as I watch him, the muscles flexing in his arms as he works. Once he’s done, he plates our omelets together with some toast, then sits beside me and we dig in.

“This is amazing,” I say, between bites.

“It’s one of my specialties, but don’t get too excited, I don’t have many,” he jokes, but after a minute, Jace drops his fork and pushes his half-eaten omelet away from him.

I frown. “You’re not hungry?”

“What are we gonna tell Teagan?” he blurts.

“Well, I don’t recommend telling him about the last few hours.” I chuckle, but I see he’s serious, so I drop my smile. “You’re that worried about what he’ll think?”

He nods, a muscle flickering in his jaw. “He wanted me to protect you, to watch after you and I . . .” He shoves a hand roughly through his hair. “Fuck. I’m not sure this is what he had in mind.” He laughs dryly.

“I’ll explain it to him.” I reach out and take his hand. Now that I know more about his parents and how little of a support system he had growing up, I fully grasp his fears and concerns more than ever. Losing Teagan or my family would be like losing his own. “I’ll tell him how it just sort of happened. He’ll understand.”

He glances down to our intertwined hands. “And if he doesn’t?”
