“How long were you together?”

“Four years.”

Fuck. That was a long time to recover from. Her words were a pained whisper, and my own burned in my chest. “Do you want him back?”

Please say no.Pleasesay no.

Isolde shook her head. I felt dizzy with the pure gratefulness that dropped through me. Waiting for her was one thing. Helping her win back an ex who clearly didn’t deserve her was another.

“No, I don’t. I just don’t want everyone to stare and wonder what’s wrong with me. Or give me their condolences. Or tell me this should be my wedding and not Ellie’s.”

Shifting my hand from her cheek to the back of her neck, I pulled her closer. “Thank you for telling me. Do you mind if I share it with the others?”

“That’s fine. I know it’s pathetic, not being able to face an ex. It’s not like I’m pining for him. I just?—”

I closed the remaining distance between us again and dropped my lips onto hers. Fully this time. Isolde froze, stiff against me, before she absolutelymelted. She tasted as sweet as her scent, hands coming up to brace against my shoulders like she wasn’t sure if she wanted to shove me away or haul me closer.

The plush softness of her lips under mine, her body under my hands… I was a goner. Tightening my grip on her neck, I deepened the kiss, tracing her lips with my tongue, savoring the little gasp that let me in.

Isolde tasted so fucking sweet. Would she taste like this everywhere?

She let go. I felt the moment it changed. Her lips and tongue turning from hesitant to desperate, hands finally pulling me closer.Yes.

Fuck, I wanted to kiss her forever, and I couldn’t.

Pulling back, I pressed my forehead against hers. “Not wanting to face someone who ripped your heart out isn’t pathetic. Far from it. And we’re not going to let anyone look at you with a shred of pity, Isolde. The only thing your ex is going to see is the fucking radiant Omega he left behind, and he’ll regret the day he did. I’ve only known you for an hour and I already know he doesn’t have acluewhat he lost.”

The hope in her eyes was painful. All I wanted to do was kiss her again so I could take that pain away. Push her up against one of these columns and show her how good it could be.

“Clearly we’re interrupting something,” a voice said from behind us.

I turned, seeing a familiar face, and suddenly this adventure made a lot more sense.

CHAPTER SIX

________

ISOLDE

“Clearly we’re interrupting something.” Trinity’s head hung around the corner of the door inside, Ocean right behind her. My friend took in the way Cade had me pressed against the railing, and her eyes glowed with what looked like victory.

I flushed with heat.

It wasn’t what she thought.

Sure, he kissed me.

Yes, his hands on me made me feel things I hadn’t feltever.

And yes, the way he offered their help made me want to bask in that warmth.

But it wasn’t what they thought.

Even though I kissed him back.

Cade’s eyes left mine, turning to see my friends, and he huffed out a laugh. “Trinity. I suppose we should have made the connection sooner.”

She winced. “Not too mad, are you?”
