“I’ve had a crush on Henry since middle school.” I took a drink.

“I don’t blame you. He’s hot.” She giggled. “Go on.”

“Well, after a shared kiss during a game of truth or dare, Victoria staked her claim on him.” Tara added.

“My sophomore year, Henry and I tumbled in the loft. He wanted to borrow a goat for a senior prank. I told him he could use Sophie.”

“Hold on.” Vic waved Paul over. “Who’s Sophie?”

Paul came over and flashed a smile at us. “Is this why you’re taking a long lunch? To gossip with the girls?”

“And?” She licked her bottom lip. “Can you think of something better for me to do?”

Paul’s cheeks turned red as he shook his head. “Ronnie.”

“We need a fresh round, boss.” She winked at him. “Now back to Sophie.”

“She ate and destroyed the principal’s office.” Edie added.

“Wait.” He chuckled. “Are you guys talking about the goat prank?”

“You knew about it?” Ronnie looked at him in confusion.

“Yeah. We thought it would be great and Henry said he’d talk to Miranda. No one knew it was us.”

“Oh yeah. Great prank, Paul.” Viv’s nostrils flared. “Miranda was suspended because she “protected” Henry after he told herI already got what I wantedhumiliating her.”

“Whoa!” Ronnie sat back. “And you were in on it?”

“Hold on, now.” Paul shook his head. “I never heard you were suspended.”

“Gee, because you and the rest of you knuckleheads paid attention to what happened to the under classmen?”

“Ooo, good point.” Edie jumped in. “And then Victoria made Miranda’s life hell.”

“Whoa.” He held up his hands. “I thought this was a bash Henry lunch, not me.”

My eyes narrowed. “Jesus! You men spread gossip faster than any group I’ve heard of.”

“Pfft.” He acted like his hair was long and he flipped it back. “Save the drama for your llama.” He pushed his butt out like a model and sauntered off, leaving us in laughter.

I drained my beer while Lena added. “But she did that because Henry cheated on her with our very own Miranda.”

“Oh.” Ronnie’s face paled. “And that’s how he ended up being your baby daddy?”

“Yep.” I raised my arm up, yelling. “Barkeep! Another round!”

“Oooo-kay, so why didn’t he leave her to be with you?” Ronnie looked around the table and she smiled as a pretty blond with heavy makeup pulled up a chair.

“Hi. I’ve seen you before. I’m Veronica, but everyone calls me Ronnie.”

“Grace.” She frowned. “They know me. Vicki had it in her head that Henry was hers in some obsessive way and his mom nurtured that.” Grace looked over at me. “Is it true, Miranda? Did you really have his kid?”

I nodded and tilted my head, taking in her posture. “Are you okay, Grace?”

“You don’t really want to know that.” She huffed and shook her head.

“I asked.” We all waited to see if she’d tell us, stunned when she spoke again.
