“Here!” He pointed to the middle of the fridge.

“I like it.” She held it there while picking magnets to hold it. “What do you think?”

“Yay!” He clapped his hands.

“Brudder!” Charlie yelled joining us in the kitchen.

“I mades mom a shur.”

He called her mom. Even he knows we should be together.

“Is dat Soda?” Charlie’s eyes grew wide.

“Yup.” Dillon nodded proudly.

“It’s so gooder!” They high-fived and Miranda brought plates with breakfast pancakes on a stick.

“C’mon boys. Time to eat.” She helped them get settled and then turned to me. “You better get going. You don’t want to be late.”

I felt like I had something stuck in my throat, and my voice was hoarse when I spoke. “You’re a really good mom.”

Mischief twinkled in her eyes. “After what you grew up with, there’s only one way to go.”

Chuckling, I pointed awkwardly behind me. “I should go.”

“Don’t wanna be late.” She nodded.

She looked like a wet dream come true as I stood there staring at her.

“Are you okay?” She whispered and squinted her eyes. “What happened to your chin?”

Shaking my head, I stepped back a few steps before reaching for the door. If I stood there any longer, I’d rush her and put her up against a wall. “It’s been a morning.”

Miranda stepped closer and pressed her lips against the cut. “Mommy kisses can heal anything.” I cupped her cheek, and she turned her head, pressing a kiss on my sore palm. “Better get to work, Henry.”

It took every ounce of willpower to move away from her and leave. My heart pounded in my chest as I made the short drive to work and hit the ground running. I loved busy days and after this morning; I needed it to keep my mind occupied.

My phone buzzed, and I saw a new message came in while I was responding to emails. Sitting back in my chair, I opened the message to see a picture of the boys playing with some Tonka trucks while the goat watched.
