“Fucking geese!” I threw my hands up in frustration.

“Bad word, Mommy.” Charlie looked up at me with his cinnamon eyes.

“I know.”

My son took off running towards the sounds of them honking.

“Dammit!” I ran after him. “Charlie! Wait!”

As I gained on my son, I noticed the enormous new house and shook my head. “Great all I need is some rich dick of a neighbor to report this and I’ll be fined!”

“C’mon, Mommy!” Charlie called over his shoulder and activated his turbo boost.

My slippers were not helping me run. As a matter of fact, they were slowing me down.

Ahead of me I watched my son slow down as he approached a privacy fence missing a couple of slats. He stuck his head inside and yelled back.

“I foundsem!”

Heaving a sigh before trying to catch my breath, I stomped myway over to the neighbor’s privacy fence and poked my head in. “You guys suck!”

The leader of the rebellion honked at me.

“I don’t care, Larry! You jerks were supposed to stay at home!” I slid through the gap, feeling my sweater catch on a nail and pull. “Really? My favorite sweater? Great.” Ripping the material, I finished entering the yard.

All five geese flapped their wings and ran towards the other side of the yard.

“That’s it, you guys. I’m done chasing you.” I flapped my arms so hard it would make an air traffic controller proud.

“You guys makin’ Mommy mad!” Charlie stomped his foot.

“Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk!”

I stomped my foot and pointed to the gap in the fence. “Home. Now. Your damn adventure is over!”

“Thatsa bad word, Mommy.”

I loved my son, but right now, I needed the word police to take a rest. Looking up, I saw a man in boxers watching out the window and I felt my blood boil.

Henry. Fucking. Walsh.

“Oh. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!” I threw my arms up again, and the geese ran towards me as I grumbled to myself. “Just great.”

“Mommy…”

“I know.” My eye twitched. “I’m using bad words, but I’m really angry, Charlie.”

“Well.” He shrugged his arms. “Shit.”

“Awesome.” Shaking my head, I crowded the geese out the hole, and then motioned for my son to go before me. “That dickhead probably thinks I’m a nutcase.”

Then again, I’m not the one standing in front of a glass door almost naked.Anddon’t you dare think about how fine he looks.

Charlie took my hand for the trip back home and I grumbled at the birds the entire trip for causing me unnecessary frustration.

Once home, Charlie helped me get them in the big blue barn and as I closed the door, my eyes glanced up at the loft and my throat felt tight as I tried to swallow.
