Spike and Drusilla raced around the house in celebration as their demon finally claimed her mate. When things fell silent in the bedroom, the two cats had just finished off the very last of the chocolates Spike had found in the kitchen cabinets.
Excellent timing, Drusilla said as she led the way down the hall toward the bedroom.
Quite excellent, Spike agreed.
When they reached the bedroom door, the two cats stretched to their full height, set their paws just under the ceiling on either side of the bedroom door and raked their claws downward, scorching the walls in perfect lines and marking their territory.
Dropping back onto four feet, they examined their claw marks.
Perfect, Spike proclaimed.
Our best markings yet, Drusilla agreed.
Tomorrow, we’ll mark the perimeter of the cabin, Spike said.
We should also mark their cars.
Definitely.
Satisfied with their plans to ensure their demon and her shifter mate remained safe and well protected in their territory, Spike and Drusilla sauntered into the bedroom and leapt onto the bed, shrinking into their smaller, house cat forms as they curled up together at the base of the bed and fell into a rumbling, purr-filled sleep.
