Sam glanced over to where he’d last seen Adam and saw that Gigi was now surrounded by the other women of the pack.

“Well?” Adam growled.

“You left the pack to find your mate.”

“I most certainly did not,” Adam snapped. “My mother manipulated me into going on vacation and I just happened to meet my mate along the way. I did not go searching for her.”

“Still,” Sam said. “The effect remains the same. Gigi wasn’t going to come here. She had no reason to, so you had to go out there,” he waved an arm to the side, “to find her. Sure you were a dunce and left her behind, but then she got pregnant and the rest is history.”

“What’s your point?” Adam growled.

“My point is the fates knew what they were doing. First, they pulled you away from the pack so that you could meet Gigi and then when you left her pregnant, the fates sent her here. I’ve been waiting for the fates to send me my mate, but since it hasn’t happened yet, I’m thinking I should leave Jamesville, the way you did, in order to find her.”

“I don’t think it works that way,” Dan said.

“Well, why not?”

“Because none of us were searching for our mates when we found them,” Cole said.

“He’s right,” Adam said.

“Pretty sure that’s the entire point,” Pete said.

“What do you know about it?” Sam growled. “You got mated at eighteen, the minute you realized Jenny was your mate!”

Pete grinned. “I’m a lucky wolf, it’s true.”

Sam groaned. “Anyway, the point is, I’ve met every single shifter, witch and human in Jamesville. So unless we start luring new people in, I have no choice but to leave Jamesville if I want to find my mate.”

The door to the bar opened behind him, bringing a chill wind inside and a husky voice that wrapped around Sam and his wolf, bringing them both to attention.

“Maybe we’ll meet our first serial killer here! That’d be kind of cool, don’t you think?”

As Sam was facing away from the door, he didn’t see the owner of that sexy voice, but he did see the way that Adam’s eyes widened and Max’s jaw dropped, though he wasn’t sure whether that was in response to the woman’s appearance or her words.

He heard a soft sound, almost like a kitten’s meow, but that couldn’t possibly be—

“Oh, but don’t worry, kittens,” the same voice said. “I’ll protect you from the big bad wolves. Promise.”

Oh, now, this was getting interesting.

Sam slowly turned around in his seat and stared at the woman standing a few feet inside Shenanigans.

The first thing he noticed was her mouth. She had her head tipped back, and her mouth wide open as she spilled the dark contents of a small, yellow box inside, all the while balancing a much larger box in her other arm.

She closed her mouth and let out a sound that made him think of sex. She then tipped her head forward and licked her lips, groaning softly.

Sam shifted uncomfortably, his wolf as riveted as he was.

For a long moment, no one moved, then she lifted that little yellow box again and tipped it once more into her mouth, eyes closed.

She let out a soft, humming sound, a sound that went straight to his dick and made his wolf growl in hunger.

As if she’d heard him, the woman’s eyes flew open, but rather than look his way, she glanced down at the larger box in her arms and said sternly, “Absolutely not. These aren’t for the likes of you.”

Her words were slightly garbled, probably due to the fact that she was still chewing whatever had been in that yellow box.

“But don’t worry, kittens. I’ll find you something to eat soon.”
