“I agree. I’m going to have Viviana keep this one on the list.”

She spread more almond butter on another cracker and spooned mango jam on top. As she lifted it from the plate, Dante stole the treat from her fingers and popped it in his mouth.

“Hey!”

He shrugged in a dismissive way.

“Greedy,” Annabelle muttered.

She climbed off him.

“You interrupted my reading. That’s the price you have to pay,” Dante said.

“Whatever.” Annabelle made another cracker snack for herself, but this time, she kept it out of Dante’s reach. “Any word yet from Nolson?”

She tried not to question him too much about the deal because he was anxious to hear from Nolson about the sale of the plaza.

“Nothing yet.”

“I’m sure we’ll hear something soon.”

“I hope so. I hope he isn’t selling to someone else. Have you heard anything?”

“No, I haven’t.”

His head fell back against the cushioned headboard.

Annabelle placed the tray of snacks on the nightstand and straddled Dante again. “Is there anything I can do?”

He lifted his head and slowly exhaled. “You’ve already done your part. You got me a meeting with him, and now I have to close this thing. I don’t understand what the delay is. He knows I’m interested.”

“You’re not the only one, I’m sure. And if he was talking to someone else before you…” She shrugged one shoulder.

“There aren’t many people who can afford to buy the plaza.”

“It’ll happen.” Annabelle leaned forward and kissed him softly. “What do you consider your greatest achievement?”

He smoothed his hands up her thighs, under the silk robe she wore. “The answer might surprise you.”

“Try me.”

“Being able to help others. As you know, I was a bit of a shit during my younger days.”

“Only then?” Annabelle teased.

He smacked her right cheek.

“Ow,” she said, though the blow didn’t hurt.

“Helping others is what I consider my greatest achievement. My father was able to start a nonprofit helping other disabled people, Emilio has his app, and Marisol is in college for veterinary medicine. I also revitalized the old neighborhood where we used to live.”

“I didn’t know that,” Annabelle said.

“We didn’t exactly keep in touch after we divorced,” Dante said pointedly.

She nodded her agreement.

“I’m doing whatever I can to help the economic situation in Venezuela by providing financial support, but the economists say we’re a long way from a complete turnaround.”
