“You’re right.”

“I think we owe it to ourselves to see where this goes. To see if the chemistry we share leads us to a future beyond the life we created.”

“My life is complicated, Alec. I’m not sure I have the time or energy to add a relationship to the mix,” I explained.

“Firefly.” He leaned forward, placing his lips on my forehead for a brief kiss. “You won’t know unless you try. Please give us a shot. I’d already made the decision to pursue you even before I found out you were carrying my child, so if that’s what’s causing your hesitation, put it out of your mind.”

“Your child?” I rolled my eyes. “You think I’m your human incubator for the next seven or so months?”

“There’s your spark.” He grinned.

“Whatever.”

“So, is that a yes?”

“I suppose.”

“Should we seal it with a kiss?”

“Don’t push your luck, Hot Shot.”

He threw his head back and laughed, something I’d rarely heard from the most serious of the del Toro brothers. I liked it. I liked it a lot.

CHAPTER 3

Allesandro

ME:GOOD MORNING, Mama.

Quin: Ugh.

Ever since the talk with my brothers a few days ago, I felt lighter…happier. I’d been harboring a ridiculous amount of guilt for years and finally being able to verbalize those emotions was freeing in a way I’d never imagined. The guilt hadn’t magically disappeared, but it was a start.

Me: Morning sickness?

Quin: Allesandro sickness. Why are you texting me so early?

Me: I wanted to check on my girlfriend slash baby mama.

Quin: Never call me that again unless you have no plans to use your dick again in the future.

Me: Is that an invitation?

Quin: I can’t deal with you right now.

Me: Sorry. I’ll behave. Can I see you tonight?

Quin: I work at Bliss until 10.

Bliss was the only real bar in town and I hated the fact she worked there every weekend. I despised the idea of her working three jobs at all, but the image of her having to deal with a bunch of drunken idiots set my soul on fire. Still, I knew from what River said previously, her family needed the money. Maybe I could convince her to let me help out financially. Then again, I preferred my balls to remain attached to my body.

Me: When is your next night off? I want to take you out.

Quin: Wednesday.

Me: Perfect. Go feed my baby. I’ll talk to you later.

Quin: My body, my baby.
