“Thank God. I told you once before, those campfire ‘Kumbaya’ moments were a hard limit for me.”

“Fuck my life,” Luc groused.

Whack.

“Language, Luciano.”

“Jesus Christ, Ma. You’re gonna give me a concussion one of these days.”

“Gotta have a brain to get one of those, Fratello,” Rico joked.

“I should have confronted you sooner,” Ems said as she sat on the arm of the chair opposite Alec. I’d been so engrossed in the antics of the younger del Toro brothers, I hadn’t noticed her approach.

“Ems, I wasn’t in the right headspace to tell you then.”

“Still, I should’ve said something. If not to you, then to River.”

“Yes, you absolutely should have told me the second you saw bruises on our best friend. However, I forgive you just like we both forgive Quin.”

“With all this forgiveness floating around, I could really use a shot of Fireball.”

“If you’d paid better attention during sex-ed class, we could have one. It only takes one time to get pregnant.”

“Emory Daubson,” I gasped. “Did you just make a smart-ass comment?”

“Good Lord,” River face-planted into her hands. “You’re rubbing off on her.”

I grinned. “My work here is complete.”

_______________

AFTER MY BIGrevelation, Alec wanted me to call out of my shift at the hardware store. When I refused, he called me stubborn and I told him he was being an overbearing ass. He proved me right when he followed me to work and hovered like a stalker for the entire four hours.

At one point, I strolled out of the back room carrying a small box full of hammers to stock the shelves, when he lost his freaking mind.

“Jesus Christ, give me that.” He ripped the box out of my arms.

“What in the world is going on with you two?” Nancy hollered as she and Pete stormed down the aisle.

“She shouldn’t be carrying these heavy boxes around.”

“I’m pregnant, Alec, not disabled,” I mumbled.

“Quinny?” Nancy gasped.

“Shit. I had a plan about how to tell you both and this was not it.”

“I guess that explains why this young man has been glaring at all my customers.” Pete pointed to Alec.

“Oh my goodness,” Nancy squealed, yanking me into a hug. “Congratulations, sweetheart. Does your mom know?”

“Yeah, she figured it out.”

“I’m gonna go call her right now. Oh, this is so exciting, isn’t it, Pete?”

“Yup,” he replied, turning to me. “You’re fired, Quinny.”

“The hell I am.”
