“Hey Mom. I’ve got news.” I took a deep inhale and told her all that had been happening over the last few months.

EPILOGUE - EVERLY

SIX MONTHS LATER

My dress fit perfectly. Between all the workouts and the dancing on stage, I was fitter than I had ever been. I’d ordered my bridesmaid’s dress a size smaller than I was used to. I did warn the dressmaker to leave the room so she could take it out in need, but I had lost enough weight by that point that she didn’t think it was necessary.

The tan strapless knee length number I wore got the attention of my man. He argued that I needed to cover up because I was attracting the attention of all the other men at Brie and Mason’s wedding.

That wasn’t true. Firstly, none of the married men could take their eyes off their wives. Cassie was in the middle of her second pregnancy and looked super cute in her feathered hem tea-length dress. Of course, Brie, as the bride, looked stunning in her floor length dress that was fit for a royal ball.

Then there was Bex. Trust me, if anyone was attracting the attention of every unattached man at the wedding, it was her. Her nude dress wasn’t particularly short or overly tight, but it did get Logan’s attention in a trip-over-his-feet kind of way. And judging by how close the two of them were dancing, I was willingto bet that that was the intention of the sexiest piece of clothing I had ever seen her wear. Not that she needed it.

The woman was a badass. Her recovery from the double gunshot wound had taken only a few months. In that time, she had made herself even stronger and even more badass. She had asked Nick and Noah to train her as a team leader.

She had thrown herself into her work. I assumed she wanted to make sure what had happened outside that apartment building never happened again. She hadn't dated. Though we all knew why that was. She wanted one man, and until she was ready for whatever baggage they had between them, she would ignore him.

It seemed like that time was over. With how close they were on the dance floor it was easy to see that they would be leaving together later in the evening.

I was alone at the table watching them enjoy each other’s company when Noah pulled his chair next to mine. “I cannot believe you’re waiting another twenty-four hours before you show off your ring.”

I lowered my voice to a harsh whisper. “I am not upstaging my best friend on her wedding day. We can tell everyone tomorrow.”

Noah had surprised me after dinner the night before. I got in later than expected. The East coast leg of our tour was on a break, and I couldn’t wait to get home to my man and my kid. We’d had dinner as a family for the first time in weeks. Sky and Noah had been on tour with me for most of the summer. It had been the best experience of my life, and I would for sure do it again. It was just not something I wanted to do regularly.

We had a few more weeks left of the Flashback tour and then I would be back in the studio recording new material. I had at least another album’s worth and I wanted to record another song with Ricky. Also, that girl Phil wanted to represent, Layla Dean, was absolutely amazing to work with. I wanted to record another single with her. Hopefully, within the next year or two.

Julie, Brie’s sister and the maid of honor sat on my other side. “I’m going to need to get going soon. I’ve got the twins this weekend. While those two are on their short honeymoon.”

She was of course referring to Brie and Mason’s one year old twins. I grinned at her, knowing she’s in for quite a weekend. “Well, call if you need help. You’ll have your own to manage as well.”

Julie had two daughters. One was adopted. It was a long story that involved her late husband and her best friend. I didn’t have all the details.

She smiled. “Look, after all the support I received this last year, I’ll baby-sit all the kids.”

“Sshh.” I mock-frowned at her. “Don’t say that too loudly. Someone might hear you.”

“Someone already did.” Scott Waite sat on an open chair on the other side of the table. “I’m happy for you to keep an eye on my boys.”

Julie smiled and shook her head. “Your kids are teenagers and outside my wheelhouse. Besides, teenage boys are gross.”

Jared joined us. “And stubborn and arrogant and just generally annoying.”

Noah smiled and turned to me. “See? I told you there had to be something wrong with him.”

I rolled my eyes as Jared and I both laughed. It seemed the only people who didn’t know that Aidan and Skylar had a crush on each other happened to be Aidan and Skylar.

The music stopped and Bex and Logan made their way over to the table. Bex flopped into the chair next to Scott, and Sue joined us and sat on his other side holding a glass of wine.

Bex leaned her arms on the table “We need to do all the things. Tins on the car, bouquet toss and everything. And get this evening over with.”

“In a hurry, my friend?”

She smiled at me. “I might be.” She gave me a wink and mouthed.I’m ready.
