“I…I mean, I guess n?—”

“I don’t give a shit what you want right now, babes. You just scared the shit out of me. So we’re gonna talk about it,” Ryan cuts me off, and herdon’t fuck with metone has me on high alert.

Shit.

“It’s fine. Really, I’m?—”

“No,” she interrupts again. “We’re not doing this. We love you, babes, so this is what’s happening. He reached out to your friends to do something nice for you. Mind you, your actual husband has never, everdone this. Even when we were kids. It may have started out casual, but you don’t do casual. Whether or not you want to admit it, you’re in?—”

“No. Don’t you dare say that. I can’t. Just because Andy wanted to open things up, I can’t love two men. I just can’t.”

As I say the words, the argument sounds weak, even to my ears.

“Whatever, babe. Either way, this man adores the shit out of you. Enjoy whatever you wanna say this is.”

“Baby girl…what Ryan is trying to say is even if you didn’t mean for it to be more, it is. You don’t need to admit that to us.” Kat pauses. “But don’t push him away. He’s good for you. Also, Andy is a douche canoe. Have you even heard from him lately?”

I choke out a laugh at the harsh change in topic and sigh. “No. He stopped coming home at all a couple of weeks ago. I don’t even know the last time he replied to a text or answered a call.”

Kat doesn’t say anything; Ryan looks like she’s ready to hunt him down.

I know what they’re thinking. I’ve been thinking about it too. Is my marriage over? Do I even care if it is anymore?

“You guys are gonna need to come over and help me get ready. How the hell am I supposed to know how to do my makeup or hair?”

Kat cackles. Actually cackles. “Oh, my love. We’ll be there by five.”

“I hate you both.” I laugh.

By the time five o’clock gets here, I’ve had my head buried in a new book for the past two hours, my anxiety calming with each passing minute. I hear noise at my front door and stand just in time to see Kat and Ryan letting themselves in with a garment bag and shoebox.

“So you’re the delivery service he spoke of?” I shake my head, chuckling, because of course they are.

The dress is absolutely phenomenal. I smile widely at Kat and Ryan. They really outdid themselves. I nearly faint when I realize it’s a fucking Versace.

The black Medusa 95 midi cinches at my waist, giving me even more of an hourglass shape. The blue Medusa 95 strappy heels that they added complement the stunning garment perfectly.

Fuck, I feel sexy as hell the minute the fabric caresses my body. Since I’ve been with Connor, I’ve gained back some of my weight, my curves slowly coming back to life. He’s always checking on me to make sure I eat. It’s kind of adorable how much he cares and pays attention to such small things.

The doorbell rings at 6:59 p.m., and my mouth instantly forms a smile. This man refuses to be late, even when he has somuch going on. Between work and making sure he sees Alannah and Sean at least once a week for dinner, his schedule is near bursting. I love that Connor is so close with his sister and nephew. He always makes sure to prioritize his family.

A bitter thought flits through my mind.

Would be nice if my husband prioritized our family.

As I shake the thought from my brain, Kat and Ryan go down to let Connor in while I grab my purse from my room. Taking a deep breath, I make my way down the stairs, holding onto the railing for dear life when I see him.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the camel. The three-piece suit he’s wearing fits him like a second skin. If I didn’t know better, I would think it was painted on. His muscular arms fill the jacket out so well, I feel my knees buckling at the sight. And those trousers hug his thighs and ass so tightly I could bounce a quarter off them.

Where the hell did that come from?

“Jaysus Christ.” His accent is so thick. “Mo stór. Tá tú foirfe.”

Chapter Eleven

CONNOR

My heart flutters in my chest when Hadley makes her entrance on the staircase. The way that dress hugs her curves makes my mouth water. She looks exquisite. I can feel my already-fitted pants growing tighter across the front as I stare at her.
