“What’s with the moose?” The curiosity is killing me now.

Her grin resembles the Cheshire Cat; it’s so big. “When my husband and I first started dating, my son was only five and couldn’t say monogamous, so he said mono-moose. It’s been a running joke in our family since. Liam painted a moose for each Mud House so I can see it at any given location to remind me of my moose.”

Chapter Nineteen

CONNOR

I received a call from Liam Asher ten minutes after Hadley left, asking me to meet him at his wife’s coffee shop, Mud House. I smirk at the possibility of seeing Hadley again before going to the office as I grab my briefcase and make my way to my car.

The drive to Mud House is easy with it being so early and no traffic on the roads. Hadley’s car is still here, and my face splits into a wide grin. I pull into a spot next to her; stepping out of my car, I grab my briefcase and walk inside, finding Hadley at the counter in a deep conversation about a moose. What in the world?

I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist. Hadley screams for a second, but relaxes quickly when she realizes it’s me. The redhead behind the counter smiles up at me.

“Oh, my God, baby, you scared the shit out of me.” Hadley spins in my arms, whacking my chest. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you going to be late?”

“Liam called, asking me to meet him here. Apparently, his wife owns the place. It’s just a happy coincidence that I get to see you again, mo ghrá.” I press my lips against hers.

“Mr. Quinn?” a deep voice interrupts.

I look up and see Liam Asher walking toward me from behind the counter.

“Liam, please call me Connor. This is my girlfriend, Hadley.”

I don’t miss how she melts into me when I call her mine.

“Of course, Connor. Hadley, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He holds his hand out to take hers.

Without missing a beat, she extends her hand, shaking his firmly.

“It’s so nice to meet you.” She smiles brightly at Liam.

“Cap, your coffee’s up,” the redhead behind the counter calls in our direction, and a lopsided grin takes over Liam’s face.

He walks back to the counter and takes the coffee, pulling the petite woman into his arms.

“Cap?” Hadley’s the first to ask.

“That’s a story for another time,” he laughs.

Hadley excuses herself not long after to get to work, and Liam and I get down to business. I have ideas for a marketing campaign that his company can help DL Technologies Inc. with, helping us to grow even more this year.

We chat for quite a while about the ideas for marketing and our personal lives. He and his wife, Kayleigh, had a hell of a beginning. It makes me feel more secure in how Hadley and I are starting out. At least neither of us have a damn stalker.

Once I arrive at the office, I have to put out fires with several server issues that arise with high-profile client contracts. To saythe day has been hectic is an understatement. Andy has been throwing me an attitude all week, and HR is starting to take notice. It will be a shite show when this comes to a head.

When the issues are finally under control, I finish my day with meeting after meeting. It’s not until seven p.m. that I can finally check my phone. It’s been buzzing in my pocket all damn day.

Alannah:

She really is lovely, brother. I get it. Just be careful.

A Mhuirnín:

The extra few moments today were such a good surprise.

Sean:

I like her, Uncle.
