I step into Naomi’s view; her eyes go wide when she notices me, a sly smile on her face like she thinks she won some big prize. I can tell the moment she takes in my still-healing face, more yellow now from the incident so it doesn’t look quite as bad as it had originally, her eyes rounding.

“What I gather from this…” I gesture between the two of them. “…is not only were you sleeping with her before you forced me into opening our marriage, but you haven’t stopped seeing her after what you did to me and the agreement we made. You also got her pregnant?” I speak quickly, making sure I get it all out.

“Well, I guess congratulations are in order. Congratulations, Naomi. However, if you know what’s best for you and that child, I would recommend not allowing him near either of you if he’s going to do this…” I motion toward my face. “…to someone he’s claimed to love for the past decade. You know, just some food for thought. If you’ll excuse me.”

I turn my back and make my way to the guest room where most of my clothes are, neither of them saying a word. I throw a duffel on the bed and toss in enough clothes for a few days so Ican just get the hell out of here. I’ll head over to Kat’s and camp out for a few days while I figure out what I’m going to do.

When I have what I need in my bag, I toss the strap over my shoulder and turn to leave my room. Andy is in the doorway with a look of pure evil in his eyes that rivals Michael Myers. I walk toward him, my shoulders pushed back with all the confidence I can muster. As I try to pass him, I’m shoved backward toward the dresser, the corner jabbing my kidney. The pained gasp that escapes my lips is a sound I’ve never heard before.

His hand wraps around my throat, squeezing so tight that breathing is nearly impossible. My hands instinctively reach for his in an attempt to free myself from his grip. He’s still pressing me so hard against the dresser, the wooden corner stabbing into my back. Tears roll down my cheeks as I struggle to breathe.

“Andy,” I rasp. “Please.”

I’m losing this battle. I ball my hands into fists, hitting him, trying to fight my way free.

“You’re…”

I can only get one word out at a time.

“Going…” I wheeze, trying to get some air back into my lungs. “To…”

My eyes go wide as the darkness starts to cloud my vision.

“Kill…”

Everything turns to black before I can finish the sentence.

I don’t know how long it’s been since Andy choked me into unconsciousness. My eyes flicker open to a room covered in shadows, a mixture of moonlight and streetlamps shining through the window. I’m curled on my side on the floor ofmy room. I gasp, clutching my throat, sobs of relief wracking through me when I realize I’m alive.

That is, until I hear his dark chuckle.

“I couldn’t let you go that easily. Not after you’ve ruined everything for me.” His icy tone shoots terror down my spine.

“Andy, please just let me walk away,” I beg as I struggle to my knees. “I won’t tell anyone. Just please let me go.”

I sure as hellwilltell someone…as soon as I’m far away from the psychopath in front of me. As much as I try to mask my emotions, my adrenaline is too high right now to make it believable, and I know he sees right through the lie.

“Nice try, Had.” He sneers.

He stands up and crosses the room from where he sat on the bed. His hand grips the back of my head, yanking my hair tight so I’m looking up at him.

“If only you could have kept your fucking mouth shut and left well enough alone. You could have spent the last year that our prenup requires in peace by yourself while I was with Naomi and our child. But no, you had to go and ruin everything.” He shoves me down to the floor again.

Before I can take another breath, a blunt force steals the air from my lungs. I realize he’s kicking me in my stomach and ribs.

It lasts for minutes? Hours? Days? I’m not sure.

When his leg gets tired, he pulls me back up by my hair. While he pants through his exhaustion, I look up at him, defiance in my eyes—a mistake I realize a second too late, as I see his closed fist is en route to connect with my already-broken face.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

CONNOR

I step into my office for the first time in nearly a week. I still haven’t heard from Hadley, and quite frankly, I’m starting to worry. At this point, I came to the office to see if I can get anything from Andy. I know, how pathetic.

I’m the first one here, so I take a seat at my desk and pull the laptop from my bag. After spending the first hour in the office with uninterrupted time checking and responding to email, I hear a knock on my door. Looking up, I see Jordan. I motion for him to come in and shut the door.

“Hey, boss. Is everything okay?” he asks.
