I’ve missed the way this man kisses. It’s rough and claiming. Like he wants to remind me I’ve always belonged to him and always will. The kind of kiss that makes me want him even more than I already did. The kind that makes ten years disappear in an instant—like I’m nineteen years old and madly in love again.

I could cry from how good it is to feel grounded again. To feel like I’m in the arms of someone who wants me and just me. Not me the Westfield. Not me the fixer. Just me—the girl who sometimes feels lost and lonely.

When we finally come up for air, he presses his forehead to mine and our breathing slows, but he doesn’t put me down, leaving me floating in between the two realities. One where Ivery much need to not fall for Quentin Undergrove again, and another where I want anything this man has to offer. Even if it comes at the risk of everything.

“I taught you a lot of things. Some I’m proud of. Some I wish I could take back. You tell me what it takes to get your forgiveness, and I’ll do it, Madison.”

“I forgave you a long time ago. It’s the forgetting that’s the problem.” I press back and he lets me drop to my feet again but doesn’t move away.

“Then tell me how I can help you forget.” He kisses his way down the side of my throat. “Because I’ve got ideas. Ways I can make you forget everything.”

“A.J. is—”

“Fuck A.J. I’ll make sure you forget him too.”

A throat clears, and we both look up. It’s Wren and Fiona, and I swallow hard.

“Fuck…” I mutter under my breath, and Quentin puts distance between us.

“We’re looking for Quentin, so he can sign a few things,” Fiona announces, shifting on her feet.

“Of course.” I smile brightly at her and then Quentin.

His eyes stay glued to me for a second and then he shifts. His demeanor changing back into the spokesperson we’ve been training him to be as he joins Fiona. They head back out to the crowd, and I smile at Wren, hoping to find a safe harbor when my legs still feel like they’re at sea after that kiss.

Wren’s demeanor however turns stormy. I’m about to get a sister-in-law lecture, and I know it. She closes the distance between us down the hall and raises her brow at me, crossing her arms over her chest.

“What the hell was that?”

“Nothing. But thank you for interrupting.”

“Fiona likes him.”

“Good. I’m sure he’ll warm up to her. He’s just being difficult about the dating thing.”

“Because he’s in love with you.”

“He’s not in love with me. He wants to fuck me. Those aren’t the same thing.”

“What do you want?”

“To keep his career afloat. Keep A.J. safe. Keep East safe.”

“What do you want for yourself? Because the way you were just looking at him, it looks a whole lot like he’s what you want.”

“Don’t be silly.”

Her eyebrow raises higher.

“Fine. It’s been a while for me. With Tobias’s drama and work and A.J. and now him… It’s been a long dry spell, and Quentin is good in bed. Plus, he looks like…that. So I’m fighting the urge to give in to him, okay? I’m only human.”

“So stop trying to set him up—with my friends—and fuck him yourself.”

“I can’t. I’m trying to keep things professional.”

“Based on what I just saw, that ship sailed a while ago. Fuck him. Get it out of your system and then figure out where the two of you go next. But if that tension gets any higher between the two of you, it’s going to explode.”
