Luke stirs next to me as I slide his arm off me and climb out of bed to grab my phone that’s been vibrating on the kitchen island for the past few minutes. It’s been five days since Luke and I got together and any spare moment we have when we aren’t at the academy, we’ve spent in my bed or next door as Luke attempts to teach me to play his game. Truth be told, I’m not very good at it.
I’m so blissfully happy with how things are going right now, the girls on the team thought I’d had a lobotomy.
On Saturday we won against Middlesbrough four–nil, clawing back some much-needed goal difference and awarding us another three points. Thankfully the teams around us in thetable didn’t do as well and so instead of sitting at the bottom of the relegation zone, we’re just above it.
Mam’s name appears next to three missed calls and I’m hit with a wave of nausea as I call her back immediately, not knowing what awaits me.
“Oh, so you are alive?” she asks sarcastically when she picks up my call on the first ring. “That’s good to know.”
“Is everything okay?”
“I could ask the same of you, you’re the one avoiding your family.”
“Yeah, I’ve been busy with that project I was telling you about.” I had mentioned it to my parents and may have used it as an excuse not to go around for tea on Saturday. It’s not like it’s a lie or anything. I did spend the day and the evening with Luke, and we worked on the game as well as him showing me how to play other games he’s worked on.
We also had a lot of earth-shattering sex, but I won’t be telling her that.
