Isaias grunted, relaying to me the conversation he had had with Ren while Kieran was taking care of me in the shower. “Michael’s being transferred back to Grimsby but I have this feeling that it’s just going to make things worse. You both know bits and pieces and I’m sure we’ll have to let Kieran in on everything at some point. It’s just…” He seemed to struggle with the information and it took me a moment to realize why. Isaias hated it when he couldn’t protect us. Michael was a loose canon with players in the game that we didn’t even know about.

Ren narrowed his eyes at our Alpha. “What’s really going on?”

“Whatever he’s been trying to do, he’s done to more than just Kieran. I don’t know the full extent of it but it seems that Michael has assaulted a few Omegas.”

Ren frowned. “How the fuck is he walking around? Those poor Omegas.” I wrapped my arms tighter around him, rocking him against my chest.

“Because he apparently has players in his back pocket. Zahria spoke with me before I left but they’re closing Kieran’s case. Michael did his time, Kieran is still alive, and no one got seriously hurt—or so the report says.” With each word, Isaias’ voice grew a little more chipped, rage freely flowing in his expression. His pine scent hardened, Kieran shifting until a soft purr was falling from our sleeping Omega’s lips. Isaias settled immediately.

None of this made me feel any better—not even the fact that we were starting to figure out what Michael’s obsession with Kieran was. I was glad, however, that Kieran was fully ours. Under the eyes of the law, Kieran now belonged to Isaias and no other Alpha could put a claim on him without being able to prove otherwise.

“You think we’ll ever get shit to stop being thrown at us?” I asked, nuzzling my nose against Ren’s temple. Michael was out of our city and easily on his way 10-12 hours in another state.

Isaias’s gaze moved to Kieran and he shrugged. “Goddess, I truly hope so. I promised all of you a safe place and gave you a nightmare.”

“No, you have given useverything, Isaias. Not once have I felt unsafe in your pack, by your side, or in your bed. Michael will be taken care of—either by the law or by us. Until then, I want to spend every waking moment enjoying my mates. And after that? I will continue enjoying every moment we share together.” My words surprised me but the conviction with which I delivered them wasn’t wrong.

Isaias nodded before throwing open his arm. Ren eagerly left me and snuggled into his side before I saddled up against the little Alpha’s back. Isaias kissed Ren first, a small, sweet embrace before leaning across Ren’s shoulder to kiss me. We supped from each other, needing the connection as we pressed ourselves together.

“Rest. It’s probably the only nap we’ll have together for a little while.”

With two babies now in the mix, Isaias wasn’t wrong.

JOEL

Everyone was still sleeping when I woke up, the three of them yet another picture I would love to see as a painting. Kieran had scooted up a little, his head angled on Isaias’ stomach. Ren was curled around Isaias’ side, his leg perched over Kieran’s arm as Isaias held both of them like the most delicate present. And they were. They really were.

I stole the baby monitor and moved back to the nest. Elias and Leo were in a completely different position. The last one had been loving but now Leo’s feet were in Elias’ back, Elias curled toward the edge of the crib. Their cute little snores reminded me of their father and I waited to make sure they were truly alright before heading to the kitchen. I wasn’t surprised to see the screen monitor set up on the counter, Ren having set it up to help Kieran slowly wean off his dependence on our babies.

Omegas loved to nurture. It made sense that Kieran wouldn’t have wanted to leave Elias and Leo’s side but the attachment hedisplayed was concerning. Even Dr. Ashton had mentioned that supporting Kieran and helping him learn how to manage his anxiety when being separated from our babies would take time. The longer we waited, the harder it would be. Little things like this–setting up the monitor–was a subtle start. With Isaias back in the house, it seemed that it would be possible. Especially now that we could all feel our Omega and cater to his needs.

I absentmindedly rubbed a hand across my neck, wincing at the tenderness of the skin. I hadn’t noticed it earlier this morning while fucking my mates but now it just brought back a memory that I had been trying to pretend hadn’t happened.

“How are you feeling?” Isaias asked, his rough voice still laced with sleep. I whipped around to see my Alpha leaning against the entrance to the kitchen, wondering how he had untangled himself. It wasn’t a surprise when I looked over at the couch to see Ren in the fetal position, tucked into Kieran’s chest. “Joel.”

I frowned, hating when he did that. Isaias never used his bark on me but that one-word command was essentially the same in my book. It felt like it was impossible to disobey him and yet, at the same time, I didn’t want to. I managed a shrug. “Could be better. It’s good to know that Michael is no longer here.”

Isaias grunted before stalking over to me, keeping me from hiding from my feelings. “And you know that’s not what I’m asking.”

“Is it bad that it was only a few days without you and I felt like my whole world was falling apart? I’m a fucking grown man and the moment you walked out the door, it was like our support system disappeared.” Just another thing that I hated. That I despised. Isaias was everything and while I was the father of two little boys, there was little else I truly brought to this pack. I knew they loved me but the same societal expectations that Ren and Kieran always ignored were starting to get to me.

“We’re all in a pretty vulnerable state, sweetheart,” Isaias said as he moved closer to wrap an arm around my waist. He angled my chin up to meet his gaze, a small smile on his rugged face. “Each of us has been through things, so many things, over the past couple of years. We were just starting to find our rhythm before I had to leave.”

I raised an eyebrow, silently asking Isaias to share what had been bothering him.

His fingers move to graze across my neck, his eyes darkening several shades until I could feel an icy cold sensation slipping through the bond. “That bastard keeps touching what’s mine. I just need to figure out why before I kill him.”

“Not going to let Zahria or Xylo take care of it?”

“Fuck no. Kieran won’t be able to live peacefully without knowing the man from his nightmares is dead.”

And I knew Isaias would stay true to his promise. I also knew that some miracle would allow us to stay together and in a society that prided self-defense overeverythingelse, I knew that there was a way to pull it off should the opportunity arise.

Isaias dipped his head to kiss me, this time desperation slowly molding into need. His grip on my waist tightened as he walked us back toward the counter and as much as I wanted to give into my Alpha, I was still fucking sore. He chuckled as he pulled away, cupping my face in his hands. “Kieran must have done a number on you in the shower.”

I snorted. “And last night and yesterday morning and…”
