Page 18 of Her Wicked Men

Vee needed one of us to be logical, and I knew my brothers wouldn’t be able to keep it together. They’d fill the streets with blood to save her from our enemies.

That woman was too pure for this world.

“Enzo and the men are trying to get her. Come back, let the men handle Callum,” I said, the strange calm numbness setting in.

“They will pay,” Kieran snarled. “I’m coming back.”

He hung up, and I let out a deep breath, the phone sounding off as Enzo called back.

“They’re on the road, heading your way I imagine,” he shared, the guilt and rage lacing his words. He’d blame himself for letting her get taken. I had questions I wanted to ask, like how she’d been grabbed right from under our noses, but I knew if I questioned him, my emotions could surface.

“Zane, don’t do anything stupid,” he said after a moment, and the corner of my mouth curved upwards.

My brother knew me too well. Even when I gave myself over to the cold, calculating side that helped me get to where I was today, my emotions were still simmering beneath.

Vee just had that effect, and I needed to keep my cool.

For now.

“I’ll see you soon.” I didn’t bother reassuring him or making false promises before I ended the call. He knew better than to expect such a thing from me.

Besides, Moretti wouldn’t kill her. She was a bargaining chip.

There’d been some stirring amongst the Moretti family, and I’d heard some of them were skulking around, but to think they’d found this lodge and had taken Vee was not something I’d have seen coming.

When life threw you a curveball, it really knew how to fuck everything up.

But Vee would be terrified, her emotions were already playing up, and now this.

No, don’t think about that.

Shut off. We needed to be the weapon we were forged into. It was the only way I’d get her back safe.

But this was an act of war, they’d gone too far this time. I’d bring the entire family down for this. Destroy the lot of them.

I dialed another number, contacting the men we had stationed at another house. We had the quarters at the lodge, butwe also had some men about twenty minutes out, one of the only other buildings for miles. They’d come up behind me and offer support, and could create a blockade for me.

Hell, I’d get onto the men in the city, set up blockades the entire way back in order to get Vee.

I gave my orders, my men obeying without hesitation.

I’d barely hung up on the third call when Kieran called back.

“We’ll burn the lot of them,” he snapped. “No one lives.”

“Breathe, Kieran. She needs us alive if we’re to save her,” I stated, hearing his own car revving like mad on the other end. He’d be driving reckless, letting his emotions control him.

His passion was both a blessing and a curse in this life.

“What’s the deal? Any updates?” Kieran demanded, and I knew he was spiraling, his lack of control and ability killing him right now.

“They’re on the road. I’ll be running into them soon enough, I’ve called in the guys from the Blackwood house. Police are setting up blockades on the stretch back, but we have no idea where they’re taking her, and there’s a lot of old roads out here,” I admitted, hating that I couldn’t cover the entire area.

Worst case, they’d reach out, using her as a bargaining chip.

And we’d pay whatever we had to.

No, that wasn’t true, we weren’t the head of the family.
