“That’s a shame,” I mused, before plunging the blade into his shoulder. He cried out, cursing and shuddering as I watched him writhe in pain.

A gut blow would’ve been more interesting. Those could be lethal and you wouldn’t even be trying.

“Kieran, we have rules. He answered our questions, we’ll let him live,” Zane stated.

“I know, but he didn’t make it easy,” I stated with a shrug.

“They’ll kill me for telling you,” Jeremy whimpered as he touched the blade still jutting from his shoulder.

“We could’ve killed you. You have a chance to run and start anew. Change your name. Better than us gutting you and tossing you into the river,” Zane said matter-of-factly, his tone flat.

Jeremy swallowed as he looked between us. We were monsters, but we did have rules and a code. Even if I wanted togut him and turn him into something spectacular to ease some of the chaos inside me right now.

“I’ll be taking that back.” I leaned forward, yanking my blade from his shoulder as he yelped and covered the bleeding wound.

“Brayden, wrap that for him,” Zane instructed our guard, who finally released Jeremy from his death grip.

Jeremy bowed over, clutching his shoulder as he drew in sharp breaths.

“You’ll live, hell, if what you say is true, maybe half the Moretti family won’t turn on you, maybe you won’t have to run. We’ll deal with those who took one of ours, dead men can’t hunt you down,” I stated as I wiped my blade on my jeans, the blood staining them.

Jeremy’s terrified gaze met mine, his brow scrunched in disbelief.

“You’ll kill them all?”

I smirked at him as I tapped the blade to my chin.

“Those who took what is ours, yes. And any who try to stop us.”

LORENZO

Istrode out of the building that Patrick was having the meeting with Stefano in. I’d gone in, keeping my cool as Patrick closed in on Stefano and his lack of controlling his family.

“Not able to keep your cool?”

I turned to find Kieran and Zane leaning against the hood of the BMW they were sporting today. Just one of the many cars from our line-up.

“Zane is better for these sorts of things,” I stated as I glanced at the towering skyscrapers around us. No one would dare take a shot at us here, not without bringing down both families on them.

“Not for this meeting,” Zane muttered as he folded his arms, those icy eyes locked on mine.

“So, what’s going on in there?” Kieran asked as he flicked his head back towards the building, several of our guards posted out the front alongside Moretti guards.

The tension between the rivaling families slithered through the entire building, and the room where the meeting was takingplace had almost been unbearable with the thickness of it. But, as per the ways of the boss, Patrick was unfazed, well-versed in such environments. Zane had been the one raised to follow in those footsteps, not I. But for some reason, even Patrick had known this was pushing things. Zane had had too much involvement in the latest dispute, and there’d been casualties on both sides.

“There was mention of Alfonzo, I was asked to exit the meeting after that,” I stated, ice prickling my veins at the mention of that wretched man’s name. He’d been the one to make the call to eradicate my family from the board, leading the attack.

Riccardo had been his brother, and he’d been the man responsible for murdering my parents, and failing to dispatch me. That had been his fatal mistake. I’d returned the favor when the truce was made, making him my first kill and my initiation into the Slade family.

“Well, we have more information,” Kieran said, his face breaking into a wicked smile. I knew it all too well. He’d done something to get that intel, and he’d enjoyed it.

“Alfonzo and Riccardo’s sons are behind this whole thing. They caused the latest dispute,” Zane shared, and Kieran pouted like he’d just had the trophy snatched from him. He glared at Zane, but our cold brother didn’t seem remotely bothered.

“The meeting started off with talks about their lack of the truce deals, how it has crumbled over the years, and how if they want to renegotiate it and not have the Slade family declare a proper war, they need to start sharing,” I said. Stefano and his crew had been quiet, but Patrick’s presence had bore down on him until he’d finally spoken about the failed truce all those years ago.

Patrick had reminded him that they were not the ones to make the first move, they’d merely retaliated, and things had only gotten worse as the factions chose blood where they could.
