“From what he said on the phone, he’s more concerned about his family now. He won’t flip for fear of what will happen to them. He’s made his choice and he has to stick to it now, he’ll know that,” Zane said.

Thomas Moretti. Father deceased, with only his mother and sister remaining. His mother had married into the family, and Thomas was not high in the ranks at all, still a teenager and not given much responsibility.

As soon as he’d shared his name, we’d had any and all information dug up while we headed to meet them.

He’d only committed one murder, a hit for the family that had been swept under the rug. Likely his initiation.

“If he tries anything, I’ll gut him,” Kieran muttered.

“He got Vee out, if his intentions are pure, we owe him big time,” I stated. Sure, someone turning on the family was one of the worst things you could do in this life, but the Moretti family was clearly having issues in their own ranks. If we dealt with those who’d gone off on their own against the main head of the family, perhaps they’d be lenient with Thomas.

“The entire lot of them are fucked,” Kieran stated.

There was no question about it. We all were planning on killing those who’d dared to take her from us. And I was lookingforward to showing them what happened when you took from us. To those who dared lay a finger on our precioustopolina.

But Vee came first. Getting to her and seeing her, knowing she was with us, that came before everything else. Once we knew she was as safe as she could be, those fuckers would pay.

No one would ever give Vee so much as a sideways glance ever again.

We fell silent, the tension thick in the air as we drew closer to the motel.

Zane’s grip on the steering wheel was white-knuckled, and he’d been doing double the speed limit the entire time to get us there.

“Thank Christ,” Kieran said as we skidded into the motel parking lot at long last.

Zane had barely rolled the car to a stop before we were all rushing out, headed straight for the room the manager had informed us she was in.

Kieran was at the door first like a madman, pounding on it like he was about to confront his lover with another man.

In a way, he was.

The door opened, and Kieran shoved the young man straight back into the room as Zane and I filed in after him, shutting the door behind us.

“Kieran! Leave him, please, he saved me!”

Vee’s voice was all it took to halt Kieran in his tracks, and the relief at the sight of her was unanimous.

“Vee, you’re okay.” Kieran swept her up in his arms instantly, and I stiffened at her wince before she hugged him back.

It didn’t go unnoticed by any of us.

“What happened? Did they hurt you?” Zane demanded as we all moved closer, shielding her with our bodies and walling her off from Thomas.

He was smart enough to sit down on the edge of one of the beds and stay quiet.

“I’m fine, I’ll be fine,” she said, but the look in those dazzling green eyes was haunted. Something had happened, something that had shaken her bad.

“Don’t lie to us, love, please,” Kieran’s voice was strained as he cupped her face, forcing her to meet his gaze as he held her close.

Her jaw twitched, her lip quivering as she searched his eyes, but she remained silent.

“Vee?” I reached out to touch her shoulder, a pang sweeping through me as she flinched automatically at my soft contact on her arm.

“Thomas, what happened?” Zane demanded as he turned to stare down the only other person who could have answers.

The pain that seared across the young man’s face had anger and fear rising in my gut. What weren’t they telling us?

Kieran’s uneasy frown turned harsh, and he released Vee, turning on Thomas in an instant.
