We stare at the ceiling for a while, until Col lifts his head, looking at something behind me. "Your phone's lighting up. Whoever it is seems to be pretty insistent."
I let out a low growl. I have a pretty good idea who's chasing me, and I do not want to speak with them. But they have called at least three times, so I s'pose I should answer.
I roll over and pick the phone up. "What?… Fuck… When?… Fuck."
I hang up.
"I take it that wasn't a close friend?"
"No." I drop the phone on my bed and roll over to face Col again. His post-O glow is gone, replaced with something that looks an awful lot like concern.
"I have to fly down to Sydney tomorrow."
"Oh."
"Can't be helped. I'm sorry. But I'll deal with that later. Because first…" I lean over and kiss him on the lips. "I believe I owe you breakfast."

"Oh my god, Wilby, yes. The kids are already in school. I’ll keep an eye on them until Polly returns from Scuttlebutt. All I have to do is make lunch for everyone and make sure the place doesn't burn down. And after lunch, I'll head back into town. It's a very simple plan that not even I can fuck up."
