“How much?” I asked again.

“Unsure.”

I nodded and smiled. “Okay, but don’t kill me, okay?”

“No!” Branson and Kieran screamed.

Stepping across the ward, I held up my arm and smiled warmly at the creature. “Let’s get you cured, friend.”

Chapter

Seven

Blinking my eyes open, I struggled to remember how I’d ended up asleep outside, but I could clearly see the stars above.

“Release her,” Branson growled.

“This is your last warning,” Riddick snapped.

Down? Where was I? I was comfortable and pressed against a warm body.

Who? Who was holding me?

Tilting my head back, I stared at the stranger holding me. She was large, very large, and had a thick scar across her left eye.

“You’re awake,” she whispered, and tears sprang to her eyes. She squeezed me tightly, making me squeak in pain. “Sorry,” she said immediately and set me on my feet, keeping her hands on my arms. “How are you feeling?”

“Wh-Who are you?”

She smiled warmly and kissed my cheek. “My name is Beatrice. I was cursed and your blood healed me. I’m sorry for scaring you and hurting you.”

My eyes widened and I gasped. “The black bear creature! That was you!”

She chuckled. “Yes, that was me.”

I hugged her and when my head rested against her very naked breasts, realized she was naked. “Oh! You need clothes! Come with me.”

Turning, I prepared to lead her inside, but Branson, Kieran, Riddick, Percival, and Triston blocked the way.

“She drank your blood,” Kieran said. “She shouldn’t be allowed inside.”

I flicked my hand, forcing them out of the way. “Nonsense. She was cursed. Don’t judge her for what she did while cursed.”

“You’re too trusting, Ember,” Kieran said.

Branson and Kieran turned and stormed away from the house.

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed Beatrice’s hand and pulled her into the house and into the bathroom. “There are clothes in here that should fit you.” She was a larger woman, but the sweats and t-shirts should fit.

She avoided looking at me and nodded. “Thank you.”

I set a hand on her shoulder and smiled warmly. “You’re safe here, it’s okay.”

Tears filled her eyes and she sniffled. “Thank you. I don’t know how they got me or how they cursed me. I’m sorry I don’t have any information I can give you, but thank you for saving me.”

Leaving her to shower and get dressed, I came out to Riddick standing in the living room with his arms crossed over his impressive chest.

“What?” I asked and put a hand on my hip, one brow arched in question.
