With a big exhale, I rubbed my face and said, “Sorry.” Turning to Caleb, I gave him my warmest smile. “Thank you for buying me the gifts and phone.”

He kissed my cheek. “You’re welcome. I’ll get your phone set up and important contacts added while we’re driving to the den.”

“Is there anything else you need?” Riddick asked.

“No, I’ve taken up too much time already. We should go.”

“If you’ve forgotten anything, we can order online to have it delivered,” Caleb offered.

“You mean I could have ordered my phone online instead of going to the store?” I asked. And avoided all the tension and fiasco of him paying for it?

“We were already here and now you have the phone, if you’d ordered online, it would have taken several days to get here. This was the better option,” he said.

I wasn’t sure I believed him, but I let the matter drop.

We stepped out of the mall’s front doors and a dragon dove towards us, red flames exploding from his mouth and aimed straight at us.

Riddick stepped in front of me, providing his body as a shield.

Caleb calmly set the bags in his hands down, took a step forward, so he was in front of us, and held up his hands. Atranslucent dome appeared around us and the fire swept over the top, but didn’t touch us.

Once the dragon was past us and circling back, Caleb shifted into his dragon form and leapt up in pursuit of the enemy dragon.

I stared in awe at Caleb’s dragon form. His scales were a mixture of blue and green, almost iridescent looking, and he was definitely much larger than I had anticipated. Almost as large as Declan.

He grabbed the enemy dragon by the neck and threw him to the ground with a hard flick of his head. Caleb landed and roared in the injured dragon’s face.“You dare attack your prince? Submit!”Caleb shouted at the dragon, furious and glorious at the same time.

The dragon cowered and raised his chin, exposing his throat.“I submit. You win. I am defeated,”he yelled in terror.

I had never been turned on by acts of violence before, but in that moment, I was weak-kneed and not from fear. Seeing him not only confidently take down an enemy who had been trying to harm us, but force them to bare their throat and submit, all without a single scratch on himself …

What would it be like to have him pin me down, growling so deeply and loudly, while buried deep inside me?

New kink unlocked.

Chapter

Twenty-Nine

Ihadn’t noticed that while Caleb was fighting the dragon, Ezio had called someone on the phone. A few minutes later, Deryn showed up, marching up to Caleb and the attacker.

Both men had shifted back to their human forms and Caleb began questioning him.

Riddick and I stayed near the entrance, where all of our bags were.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I nodded. “Thanks to Caleb’s shield.” I had to learn how to do that.

“It was one of the first magic spells Nico burned into his brain, ensuring it was second nature to create one when necessary.”

“Definitely a good spell to learn. I wonder why the mage academy never taught us that spell?” It seemed like it would be one of the first things they should teach us.

“Because it’s something only a limited number of mages can do,” Nico answered behind me.

I yelped and spun around a hand to my chest. “Nico,” I hissed.

He smiled broadly, clearly enjoying having scared me. “Would you like me to try to teach the shield spell to you?”
