“Thinking about him again?!”

It was more than just thinking, however, I remained silent.

“Let's go!” My sister grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room. “We'd better get down before they start asking us questions and scolding us for being late.”

I let her take me to the outside area of the house, where the family was gathered around a large table in the garden.

Chapter seven

I moved away from the window and put my cell phone in my pocket after Pietra had ended the call. After four years I had finally heard her voice. It was even more beautiful than I imagined, and I wanted to be able to see her in person, but I knew I would need to be discreet and not attract too much attention.

Pietra wasn't just any woman, she had a surname that could get me into a lot of trouble, but I still wanted her.

“Were you able to make the call?”

The woman moved, looking up from the computer screen to stare at me.

“Yes.” I put my hands in my pockets and continued to stare at her. I had left my men outside and was alone with the hacker.

“Why did you want to talk to one of the Belluccis?”

“It's nothing you need to know.”

“You come in here and practically rip off my door, making demands and you think I shouldn't know?”

“You’re one of the best hackers I know, Natasha Petrova.”

“Don't think that showering me in compliments will distract me. You are all powerful now. You could very well use one of the hackers who work for the mafia instead of a simple girl who makes a living out of tax fraud.”

“It is something confidential that must be kept completely secret.”

“Hmm...”

“You should join us.”

“You know I don't want to get involved with the heavy things you do.”

“It's your choice.”

“Thank you for still giving me one.” She shrugged and went back to working on the computer.

Natasha was a woman who had come from Armenia in search of a better life in Moscow, but like my mother and many others, she ended up in a house of prostitution. On one of my visits to the place, I had caught her using a device she developed to steal from customers' credit cards without them noticing.

I had offered her a place to live and equipment to work on my behalf when I needed to deal with matters that I didn't want to share with the rest of the mafia. While she used her intelligence to my advantage, the men thought I was just screwing her and thus keeping her safe.

I opened my jacket, took out a bundle of bills and placed it on the table next to her.

“Stay away from trouble.”

“As if I'm the one looking for one.”

I pretended I didn't know what she was talking about and left the apartment.

The soldiers, who were waiting in the corridor where I had asked them to, came with me as I passed them. Other than the man I had caught kissing my brother, no one was questioning my authority. The soldiers migrated easily, but I had not yet had a meeting with the local authorities to find out what their reception would be like. However, I was convinced that I would make those who were not so loyal learn the importance of bowing down to me.

I had killed Igor and now the power was in my hands, and I wouldn't let go of it just because some didn't agree with my ascension.

I stepped onto the street, approaching the SUV that was at the curb. However, I soon heard the sound of a gunshot thatmade me hide behind a trash can. We were in a middle-class neighborhood of the city and shootings weren't common, plus that bullet had passed close enough that I was sure it was meant for me.
