“I do. You will be my wife when you arrive in Russia.”

“I want that too.” I smile.

Perla was going to marry a man she wanted, and I longed for Mikhail.

“Then come!”

“Not yet.”

“Pietra.” He huffed, unhappy with my reluctance.

“I don't want to run away and never see my family again. So, they need to accept it.”

Mikhail shook his head, he didn't seem so happy with the situation, nor convinced of my arguments, but I wanted his desire to be with me to be enough to accept my conditions. He didn't have a family, but I loved mine and wouldn't abandon them.

Chapter twenty-five

I was leaning on the bike, still wearing my helmet when my cell phone vibrated.

Pietra:

I’m in my room.

Mikhail:

Safe?

Pietra:

I don’t think anyone saw me climb the wall.

Mikhail:

Great.

Pietra:

Where are you?

Mikhail:

Still around. Hoping you change your mind and come with me.

Pietra:

You know why I can’t.

Mikhail:

I don’t understand.

Pietra:

You will understand when we have our family.

Mikhail:

I must go back to Russia today.
