“No way.” His expression calmed me down. “We just need to resolve this situation.”
“My grandmother knows about us,” I confessed.
“And?” he insisted that I continue.
“First, she wanted to convince me that you were the worst alternative.”
“Do you agree with her?”
“Not even my grandmother would agree if she knew you like I do.”
“Then?”
“She knows I don't want anyone other than you.”
“I like hearing that.” He smiled as he caressed my face.
“I was going to talk to my father, but she asked me to be careful.”
“Just come to Russia with me.”
“This is one of the points I discussed with her.”
Mikhail pursed his lips, and his expression became more tense than I would have liked.
“Pietra...”
“Wait.” I touched his face to wait for my argument. “What my grandmother said is true. If I just run away with you to Russia, my family will follow as if you kidnapped me.”
“I can deal with them.” He snorted.
“You can’t! One side will end up dying and I will never forgive myself for something happening to you or my family.”
“So, you want me to accept that you marry someone else?”
“I know you won't do that.”
“I'm glad we understand each other.”
“There is only one way for us to be together without bloodshed: the alliance.”
“Pietra.” He held my face and made me look into his blue eyes. “I'll do anything as long as you're with me.”
“I will always be, it's not just my body that belongs to you.”
“Fine.”
“I just need to think about how to talk to my father.”
“We don't have all the time in the world.” He moved his hand down my spine until he cupped my ass.
“I know.” I took a deep breath. “My father will throw a party in honor of my and my sister's engagement. I asked for it to be a masquerade ball, so you can infiltrate the guests.”
“Do you want me to be there to see you being shown off with someone else?” He gritted his teeth and didn't seem at all satisfied with what I said.
“No. I'm thinking of taking the opportunity to introduce you to my father. I know that when you two talk you can find a middle ground, I just need you to be face to face without first trying to kill each other.”
“You know it's too risky for me, don't you? I'll have my guard down in enemy territory.”
