I look at it again—actually look at it this time—and ignore Daphne’s mischievous grin.

“I wonder what else could be taking up your mind,” she chirps as I look over a deal she’s been offered to model for a fashion line.

“I always have a lot going on,” I reply, reviewing the finer details. She has always approached me for this, and I don’t mind reviewing her contracts. “This looks sound.”

“I like her,” Daphne says.

“What?”

“Honey. I like her. I’m meeting up with her today.”

I shake my head, irritated by how observant she is. “She has work.”

Daphne looks at her nails and innocently says, “Does she?”

I know when Honey works because I have her schedule right before me.

“Because last I heard, she quit.” She plucks the contract out of my hand. “Maybe she had a tyrant of a boss.”

“Daphne,” I all but growl.

But she’s already walking out the door and waving goodbye. “Thank you for your help.”

I call the store, and Alana answers.

“Where is Honey?” I demand.

She goes quiet momentarily, then softly says, “She quit this morning, sir.”

I hang up the phone.

CHAPTER 32

Honey

Daphne sits across from me, trying to defend Dawson, but it goes in one ear and out the other. I’ve been circling my finger over the glass of Moscato for the last ten minutes. I know she thinks highly of him, but that doesn’t mean I have to too. A part of me is glad to know it was him who won me in the auction, but the other part feels betrayed he could do that to me without actually telling me. For a man who boasts how he doesn’t fuck virgins, he sure knew how to fuck me.

Daphne tells me about her date and how she slept with him on the first night and hasn’t heard anything since. She also tells me that she wore the revealing outfit. I laugh at her, and she simply shrugs and tells me it’s been a while for her, what with having a contract with Dawson for so long. Andthough there was no exclusivity clause, she didn’t try to date while under contract with Dawson.

“He really is a good guy. I just want to add that.”

I know he’s a good guy. I’ve seen it. I’ve met a lot of dodgy men in my time due to my father’s business dealings, and he’s never given me any of those vibes whatsoever.

“And you don’t need to tell me, but I know about the twenty million,” she adds.

I don’t bother to ask how she knows. Daphne seems like the type to know everything that happens in Dawson’s line of work. But I think she’s also smart not to talk about it. Unless, of course, in a situation like this.

I nod. I vowed I wouldn’t speak of it, and I’ll abide by that vow.

“I’m actually incredibly surprised it was him. He told me he has this whole thing with never wanting to touch virgins.”

“He’s said that to you?” I ask.

“Well, it’s very well-known. It doesn’t suit hisusualtastes, but he’s never expressed why. But also, virginity makes so much money for him. I mean, look at how much money you made from him. That’s evidence in itself.”

I can’t help but think there’s something else to Dawson’s aversion to virgins. Surely, there’s a deep-set reason behind it.

“How can I ever trust him again? Did he tell you I found out about it by accident?”
