“No. Come here.” He waves me to him and I finally relent. As soon as I lie down, he pulls me to his body, wrapping his arms around me and resting his chin on my head. “You smell so good.” He nuzzles my hair. I sigh and my whole body relaxes. I sink into him, feeling more at peace than I have maybe ever. His hand rubs my arm rhythmically, I can feel his heart through the solid wall of his chest, and his breathing moves the hair on my forehead.

“I guess I can stay tonight,” I whisper.

“You say that like I’m giving you a choice.” He laughs.

“I can’t work for you though. Especially if we’re going to do this again.” I rest my hands on his arm draped across my chest.

“Seeing my woman every day at work sounds great. I don’t see the problem.” Dax shrugs.

“I’m not your woman, we just met.” I close my eyes.

“Saying it over and over doesn’t make it true. I don’t care when we met, the second I saw your sexy ass sitting at that bar, I knew I had to have you.” His voice is as tired as I feel.

“I’m not moving in with you,” I whisper, but he’s already asleep. There’s no point in arguing with an unconscious man, so I let his steady breathing lull me to sleep.

Chapter Eight

Dax

Iknow I’m in trouble the second I walk into the office. Joslyn has her hand on her hip, the other is holding out a stack of papers. Her chocolate brown eyes are narrowed in my direction and one brow is lifted. The two guys who followed me in laugh and turn to run. Traitors.

“Morning baby.” I take two strides toward her to kiss the mad out of her, but she stops me with a hand on my chest. It’s fucking adorable that she thinks she could actually stop me. I move her hand, gather her in my arms and kiss her. She sighs in my mouth and melts in my arms.

“No!” She breaks our kiss and pushes me back. “What is this?” Joslyn waves the papers in my face. I couldn’t see them if I tried. I grab her hips and pull her against me. “Now Dax!” Her glare is so damn cute.

“No idea. Kiss me and I’ll look at them.” I wink at her and she shoves the paper in my face. It’s mail. An envelope addressed to her.

“I won’t kiss you until you explain this.”

“That’s called mail.” I take it and flip through the letters. “Your mail by the look of it.” I toss the letters at the desk. I lean in and her arm stops me again. I groan and throw my head back in exasperation.

“Why is my mail coming to your address? I don’t live here.” She punctuates each word by poking me and I finally get sick of it. I growl in my throat, backing her into the desk and wrapping my hand around the back of her neck. Her cheeks flush pink and she fights a smile.

“You need to settle your ass down or I’m gonna smack it, baby. You got that?” I make sure to keep my voice low.

“Tell me to calm down again and I’m choking you with those letters.” She purses her pink lips. Joslyn glares, I glare back. She cracks first and smiles.

“Are you done?” I press against her.

“No. You can’t just have my mail forwarded. I don’t live here!” She runs her hands up my chest and around my neck.

“What night are we on? Six?”

“Yeah but-” I put a finger to her lips.

“And all of your belongings are here.” I keep my finger on her lips so she stays quiet. “And you sleep in my bed every night. Your shampoo is in my shower. You have a parking place for your truck. If you don’t live here, explain that.” I smirk and move my finger from her lips.

“It’s temporary. As soon as I find a place, I’ll get out of your hair.” Now she’s just trying to make me mad and I’m done with the banter. She knows damn well that threatening to leave is the one button I’m tired of her pushing.

I take her chin in my hand and pull her lips to mine, kissing her slowly, then make my way to her ear. “You’re not in my hair. My bed, my thoughts, and under my skin, but not in my hair. You’re not leaving. There’s no place for you to find because you’re mine now and this is where you belong. Do you want to leave?” She shakes her head. “Good. Then this is the last time we need to have this conversation. I want you in my kitchen with me in the mornings, in my bed with me at night, and at work with me in between. I love you baby.” The second the words leave my mouth, I feel her stiffen.

“I should get back to work.” Joslyn pushes up off the desk and stands on her toes to kiss my cheek.

“Lunch time.” I remind her. “Why don’t you run home and eat. I got this until you get back.” I know I freaked her out with my casual declaration of love, and she probably needs a little space. I can give it to her as long as she’s back in my bed tonight.

“You sure?” She’s already getting her things together to leave.

“Yeah, baby. I’ll see you after lunch. Go relax.” With one last kiss, Joslyn is out the door and I watch her stare at her truck before cutting through the trail to the house. For a second, I was worried she might get in her truck and leave. Chasing her ass down would have really cut into my work day. I know I shouldn’t have told her I love her this soon, but it just came out and it was too late to take it back. I meant it, so she’ll have to come around eventually. I can wait. With Joslyn gone for the hour, I take over her duties and check the messages. I knew she’d figure it out quickly, but I expected to still be training her a week in. I’m not. She picked it up immediately and changed our filing system to be more efficient. The office of the shop works smoother than any place I’ve seen. When calls come in, she schedules appointments, she orders parts, and answers phones. It’s like she was made to run this place with me.
