“So how would you propose we go about finding the bastard then?” he asks softly, and I respond without thinking, still staring at his lips.

“The fastest way to take apart any complex system. Start at the top and work down.”

“Explain.” The word is a sensual invitation, and it’s only through sheer willpower that I force myself to stay focused.

“Trouble this sophisticated isn’t going to originate from the bottom feeders of the second tier. It’s potentially beyond anyone in the second tier. So we either have someone really smart, or someone not as smart with great access. Either way, we start with the Alliance, make sure there are no leaks at the highest level.”

“It’s not the first tier. There’s too much outrage over the breach for me to believe that.”

“I…” I hesitate. I don’t want to piss off my newfound extended family with my inherent lack of trust, but at the same time—

“What?” Quinn demands. “Don’t ever worry about speaking your mind. It’s part of your value.”

I nod, swallowing as a new surge of heat rolls through me. “I believe you when you say you trust the other families, but I’d rather back up your instincts with data. It’s easy to get distracted by personalities.”

“Oh?” he grins again, and I steadfastly avoid staring at his mouth. “You having a problem being distracted, Jo? Is that something we should work through first?”

When I don’t answer, he moves closer to me. Now he’s practically on top of me, and I’m suddenly finding it difficult to breathe.

“Because I think you had the right of it all along,” Quinn continues, lifting his hand to rest his fingers under my chin. He tilts up my head, and I don’t know which is worse, the erotic curve of his beautiful lips…or the undeniable need in his eyes. “The best way to learn any complex system is to start from the top down.”

And leans down to capture my mouth with a hard, demanding kiss.
