‘I’m glad you enjoyed it.’

‘So much.’ Her cheeks are flushed pink and her eyes sparkle. The hours of blue balls suddenly don’t seem so bad seeing the joy in her face, and warm, glowing pride spreads across his chest because she’s giving him that look again. Like he’s the knight in shining armour.

He’s still counting the minutes until he can get her back to the hotel.

As the bodies of people converge at the exit doors, Cameron reaches for her hand. Even that innocent touch is erotic after so long with no contact. Jules grins at him and lifts their joined hands to press a kiss to the back of his knuckles. Cameron’s skin tingles where her lips pressed and while the pride blooms stronger across his torso, it also sends blood rushing down to his stirring dick. Shit. Is he really going to have to wait another hour to get her alone and naked?

Once outside, Cameron pulls her in the opposite direction to the crowd, taking her around to the stage door where Carrie, still in her concert blacks, is already waiting for the pair.

Carrie’s gaze goes to their joined hands and she raises an eyebrow at Cameron. He reflexively separates from Jules and shoves his hands into his pockets, not wanting to give Carrie the wrong idea.

‘Hey, Jules.’ Carrie goes for a hug and a kiss on the cheek. ‘Lovely seeing you again.’

‘You too. Thank you so much for getting the ticket for me. It was really special.’

‘You’re welcome.’ Carrie turns her attention to Cameron and though her voice remains light, he can see the question in her eyes. ‘Cameron told me you’re a music buff, so it seemed appropriate.’

Jules laughs. ‘I really am. And I haven’t heard live classical music in ages. I forget how it sweeps you up in it.’

Cameron feels the same about Jules herself.

He follows both women through security—Carrie signing them in—and up into the green room. Jules’s dress parts tantalisingly as she moves, showing off her long legs and making Cameron’s pulse sluggish and heavy inside him. He’s caught up in Hurricane Jules.

Carrie pushes through the doors to the green room and Jules’s head starts swivelling to take it in. Cameron’s seen it all before but he smiles watching Jules pointing to the pool table in one corner, and the multiple screens broadcasting live footage from the various stages.

Carrie drops back beside him while Jules walks slowly through the tables and chairs, past the lounges and to the big windows at the back of the space that look out over Sydney Harbour.

‘Hand-holding?’ Carrie asks him, with a single-eyebrow raise perfectly emulating their mother.

Cameron shrugs. ‘I didn’t want to lose her to the crowds.’

‘Sure.’

Cameron heads for Jules and away from Carrie, but it’s not easy to shake off either of his sisters when they have something to say.

‘It’s your life,’ Carrie says, following him, ‘but you know what the parents would say.’

‘Don’t use your phone at the dinner table?’ Cameron says, curling his hands into fists in his pockets.

‘Don’t deny yourself the chance because you’re scared it may not work out.’

‘That was meant to be encouragement in our professional lives.’

‘I think it applies here too.’ Carrie grabs Cameron’s arm to stop them before they get too close to Jules. ‘Look. The way you look at her, the way you are around her… Maybe you can’t see it, but she lights you up. Anyone who makes you feel like Sydney on New Year’s Eve is worth taking the chance on, don’t you think?’

Cameron’s gaze falls on Jules. His chest expands seeing her, the warm brown curls falling down her back and the smile on her face as she types something on her phone.

‘It’s a big risk.’

He doesn’t need to specify. Carrie knows what went down with Braden. Rehashing it tonight when Jules is standing metres away from him looking like a goddess is the last thing he wants to do.

Carrie steps in front of him, blocking his view. ‘With a big reward.’

He’d brush it off as meaningless nonsense, but Carrie’s talking from experience.

Carrie’s gaze flicks over his shoulder. ‘Susannah! One sec.’ Her attention comes back to him. ‘I’ve been trying to catch her all evening. Meet you both in the dressing room? You remember the way, yes?’

‘Yes, of course,’ Cameron happily takes the reprieve. ‘We’ll see you there.’
